I get what you are saying.....but I've got 2 kids coupled with the fact that I don't usually spend much money on myself so if I don't get a car that's close to what I want right off the bat it's going to be a real tug of war with myself to be throwing more money in after it down the road. As long as I can get a car that appearance wise is pleasing to me and is in good working shape with good mileage it will keep me happy for awhile.

This car is similar to the one I"m going to look at tomorrow.....it sold for 19,800....think I should adjust my thinking about an offer?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=330105290778

I'm thinking if the car checks out I may still offer 19k...I'm local and will be able to pay cash so I hope I can sell him on the ease of transaction should I make an offer??

19 k seems plenty for that car. PM the owner with your offer and see if he ends the bidding. My buddy did this in the past and it worked. The problem is that ebay seems to be a sellers market . I have seen many cars sell for way over what they are worth. Good luck !

Have your check in hand made out for the amount you want to spend. When they actually see you are serious and ready to buy, it becomes very tempting!!
This has worked for me in the past!

Take 17 one thousand dollars bills with you, and start counting them out on his dinner table. Tell him you are a real buyer. Make sure you take your watch dog (colt 45) with you.

I will have the cash next week....this is the preliminary look...although I can get him a deposit that should be more than enough to hold it if I really liked it. I would assume at this point if I did offer 19 he's going to come back with "that's too low" or "I'll wait and see what the auction brings first".....and I'm counting on that auction staying under 19 to give me a bargaining chip. I probably would just leave my initial offer (should I make one) on the table till early next week as I'll be gone this weekend.

On the plus side I also found another car somewhat local to me...it's Black...56,000 miles, '99, Gray Interior, no mods, but it's an Auto. Driven by an older gentelman (he didn't even know the difference between the regular seats and Sport seats). He's asking 20k and says he has a little wiggle room.

I think I'd prefer the 6 speed over the Auto all though after a few trips through traffic down here I may change my mind

I think $19k is a good offer..I paid $23k for my 99 2 and a half yrs ago and it had only 20k miles...I dumped the hideous wagon wheels for polished Y2K's and it looked 100% better(kept the stock runflats since they had lots of tread left)..

If everything checks out and the car is in excellent shape as it presents in pictures do you think 19 is too low of an offer, just right or not low enough? The car is on ebay right now with a reserve of 21.5k. It currently sits under 17k on the bid. I have full faith that this car will not sell on ebay for 21.5...probably not even for 20 from what I've been seeing but I'd like to get the opinions of some of you guys.
The farther under 20k I can get it the more money I have left to do some preliminary mods if this turns out to be the car I want (I'm looking at another one as well currently).
Thanks.

Sounds like my car (prior to mods).

I paid 19K for a car with 35K on the clock. Depends alot on your area of the country, and how long you are willing to wait.

To each his own, but I love the wagon wheels. You could do something like I did on the cheap:

Well I just got back. The car is in excellent shape. No scatches, scuffs, anything like that. The worst thing I could find wrong with it is a cover missing inside the driver door pull/handle.

Drives perfect, is solid, no rattles or creaks.

Guy has to sell the car by the 18th due to some travelling he's doing. I don't think he has it advertised anywhere but on ebay.

The car is currently sitting right around 18,100 on ebay. I asked him if 20,250 would entice him to take it off of ebay. He thought about it and said he'd wait but he'd take my name and number.

I was baffled. I figured he'd be happy to deal with someone that lives 11 miles away and close the deal. I told him I could maybe go a tad higher but I wasn't going to be able to get anywhere close to 21,500.

So...now I guess I sit and wait for the auction to run out and hope it doesn't get bid up too much farther. If it doesn't I guess I'll be giving him a call on Wednesday to see if he'd reconsider my offer. I have visions of that car with Black C6 Motorsports on it

Default vette price

I think 18-20 is fair, I bought 99 vert with 19k miles for 21k, It was all original, one owner, needed tires and a battery, car had all original paperwork and is in mint condition.
