Is the oil "guzzling" issue an early production problem? My car was built on 8/00. I got it 8/16, It has under 3K miles, don't drive it enough to notice a problem and I have the oil changed every 3 months. Unfortunately I spend most of my time in LA and the Z06 is in Miami, I'de hate to find a huge problem when I start driving it more.
True, still I want to know if I have a bigger problem because of the early production date.
I went to this site and it kind of answered some questions. http://www.c5registry.com./2k2z06/page5.htm
I had a problem with being 3 quarts low once, but again, I don't drive it enough to be 100% sure.
In all seriousness, if you've read the C5 Regsitry piece, you know there are no specific "problem" production dates.
Leave the oil in it long enough to get an accurate reading on oil consumption. The recommended change interval is your oil life monitor or one year, whichever occurs first.
Also, the annecdotal evidence indicates that oil consumption drops after the first few thousand miles, but that's been true of most cars for as long as I can remember.
I assume that your "three quarts down" comment did not apply to your new Corvette.
SWDuke-
"3 quarts down"- happened to me in the Z06. I had a 98 C5 with the A/4 never had a problem. According to the websight I went to it's all about how you drive the car, hi rpm / light load. Kind of sounds like a big load if :bs .
Re: '01 oil problem - production dates (Closer_2001)
The build date is the day the car is assembled in BG.The engines could have been manufactired a week or a month before that. After engines are assembled in Canada the are set on shipping racks that are placed in rail cars there is no order as to way they are placed in rail cars, all that matters is the right casting number for a Z or a LS!. My Z was the 331 built and never has used oil excepted for flogging days at the track, the 328 Z built used gallons of oil fron the owners first day. It was re-ringed and cured the problem, but on engine tear down the dealer found all the ring end caps lined up.So there was a assembly problem also. It all comes down to QUALITY CONTROL or lack of.
