I took my wheels/tires to the local Goodyear dealer today to have the 2001+ sensors replaced with '99 ones. I hauled the wheels inside and then got the estimate...$272.00. The guy was actually upset when I said that was too much money to just replace sensors and balance the wheels. I took them down the road and dropped them off at another tire dealer, with an estimate of $72.00.
This brings up a question. I have a 1998 coupe and understand the 1997-2000 tire pressure sensors are more expensive than 2001 & up. Can I put 2001 & up sensors on my wheels in place of the more expensive 1998 sensors?

Unfortunately, no. They changed them in '01 and they aren't compatable with the early C5's.
that first price sounds outragous. Maybe he did not want to do the rims cause he was worried about scratching them. Sometime people over bid stuff cause they don't want to deal with it.
I took two NEW Goodyears (bought off the forum) into my local GY dealer and he would'nt mount and balance them because I didn't buy them there.
Appalling. I have seen this alot. The very notion that by helping you out might bring them more business down the road seems lost on these folks. Maybe they have more business than they can handle. If that were the case, I might understand. Otherwise, I don't get it?
I know this...when someone treats me that way...I never go back....for anything. The way I see it, I am standing there trying to give them some of my money and they refuse it?? WTF..??
I know Goodyear isn't the cheapest around but that's outrageous. I just had the Goodyear here take off my 4 old Kumhos, mount and balance my new ones, using my old tire pressure sensors and do an alignment and my total was around $200. More then I wanted to pay, but no one else around here would touch my magnesium rims.
