I've noticed some rust stains on the front speaker grills- color of the speaker grill is gray ( if anybody ask). I don't think the grilles themselves are rusted, looks more like a transfer than the grills themself getting rusted. -anybody here know how to remove the stains short of repainting them with flat gray paint.
I've tried a couple of stuff but so far hasn't work. I will be going to Wally Mart today and try CLR -if that doesn't work, I'll probably repaint it. But any suggestion before I do the repaint will be great. Thanks!
BTW - these are used pieces probably got the stains from long storage with other parts.
Guess nobody can suggest anything. Went to Wally mart and bought a product called Klean Strip, works very good but for those actual stubborn rust, had to do it twice. So mods please close this thread.Solved my own problem, sorry I asked first before actually trying more things!
i know this is an old thread, but i figured i'd post here instead of starting a new one. i've got this same issue. mine is actually the grills rusting some though. did you ever determine if yours was the grill rusting or just a stain? i'm wondering if it's worth the effort to try and clean them since it's in the little holes, or just look for some used/new ones in good shape...

I've used 'naval jelly' before when I was restoring an old vert, worked pretty good. Hope this helps,

Mine were rust stain and a little bit of actual rust that went around the grille (front and back of the grille- not sure how it happened). Like I mentioned on my earlier post. Walmart sells a product called Klean Strip. I found it in the autoparts department where the bondo's, body repair, auto spray paint are located. It's not expensive ( I think it's about 5 maybe 6 dollars. Hope this helps!
I'm curious how did you get rust on the speaker grill? Is rusty water running down somewhere as from rain or something?
I bought the interior door panel with the rusted speaker grille from ebay since I replaced my panel from black to gray- I'm thinking the rust stains/rust developed most likely in storage by the seller.
I have ther same problem and don't know how to address it!
Is it rust or stain??
I hate to rune the speaker working on it.
You're not going to ruin the speakers, just remove the interior panel and then remove the grilles -the grilles have tabs that are bendable and that's how they are attached to the rest of the interior panel. I've removed the interior panels twice in the past just because I had a couple of projects, never had any problems!
I had the rust stain problem,I think it's from sweat off your legs in summer when wearing shorts possibly, anyway I just pulled the covers ,took off the bose emblem and sanded then used rust killer primer ,painted them and have had no problem with rust coming back . Use good quality paint you won't be sorry.
yep, i thought possibly humidity also. it's like a jungle here sometimes in the summer. we can also get cooler nights after a warm, humid day where mist/fog/dew just hangs in the air.
