Default 4 Post car lifts??

Has anyone bought a 4 post car lift for their garages? I am currently entertaining the thought and checking out prices and models.

So far I am looking at this one.
http://www.americanautomotiveequipme...T&Show=ExtInfo

It is the AmericanProducts SS7000XLT.

Does anyone have this model?

Does any one having other models that they would recommend?
I would like to keep the cost to about 2k.

What did you do about the garage doors? did you have to put in different styles?

Thanks! Lavoieste

Assuming that you want to use the lift for storage, once you install the lift, you need to do the following, based upon your ceiling height:

1) Re-Track the garage door so the tracks are hugging the ceiling. That will allow you to open the garage door with a car stored on the lift.

2) Replace the typical "pull" garage door opener, with a Jack Shaft opener (I have a Liftmaster). This works off the torsion spring shaft with a sprocket. The "pull" garage would interfere with the stored car.

3) Move the center light fixture on the ceiling.

4) You might need an electrician to hard-wire the garage door opener, and you also migh consider additional outlets/circuits for the lift, lights, and compressor.

A simple reminder, the lift when shipped weighs approximately 1500 lbs. I paid a guy with a flatbed to go to the trucking company, pick the lift up, and then he dropped it in the driveway. $75 well spent

Good luck

Thanks Classic Chevy,

Yes, this is going to be for storage.

How much was the shipping for the lift? Which one did you buy?

Bought it from the same place you are looking about 4 years ago. My lift was made in Texas. You might want to check if the advertised lift was Made in America or China.

I thought that the shipping was $200 or so.

If you ever have a major car show in your area, attend it and bicker with them for their demo model. Often they'd rather sell their demo than transport it home.

It has six locks you put in place after the car is at the height you want. I am not sure why you would think it is not safe?

I don't want to be a "search ****", but this is one topic that you can learn a *lot* from the number of threads a simple search on "4-post lift" will generate.

For example, you can learn about the structural differences between the "C-channel"-type lifts (mostly made in China) and the over-the-post-type lifts (for an example of the latter, see my post #14 in this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...t+All+American ).

Lots to be learned!

HTH,
Mark

Just ordered a Bend-Pak HD-9 Four post lift from Automotive Service Equipment, $2364 and free shipping, waiting for it to come in. Had to alter my garage door tracks so the door hugs the ceiling, the ceiling is 11 feet high.

I've got the Rotary Revolution 4 post...a bit more expensive than some of the others...but, I've been very happy with the solid construction of the lift. Good luck with your search.

I have two Autolifters M6 4 post lifts, now http://allamericanlifts.com/
They are the same design as Backyard Buddy.
It's the only lift which I would work under due to the lock design, and the collar that completely surrounds the post. I have a two car garage, 10' 6" ceiling height, and the door opener is not in the way. I did have the door tracks raised to the ceiling.

Default I have the one you are considering here....

I purchased mine two years ago.....shipping was free, special deal I guess. When I had my home constructed, I made sure the ceilings in the garage were 16ft just for this install. It is also 40 feet deep and 26 wide, so I do not have to worry about the garage door. I hve had no problems with the lift and would do it again in a second.

Default Parking Lifts

I may be a little bias, but I know American Custom Lifts offers the best four post parking lifts on the market, as well as the best customer service.
Commercial posting

Supporting vendors pay for the considerable bandwidth charges on the Forum, making it free for the rest of us. In exchange, they get the privilege of using the Forum to market and promote their goods and services.

Forum members are welcome to sell a Corvette or Corvette parts they purchased for their own personal use. Anything else is considered to be a commercial sale.

No links or reference to eBay sales, please. If the sale is appropriate for the Forum, post it on the Forum, rather than linking to it elsewhere.

Members are not prohibited from mentioning it when they have a good (or bad, for that matter) experience with a non-supporting vendor. But such mentions cannot be so specific (address, phone number, e-mail address, URL, price, part number, etc.) and so frequent that they become marketing and promotional references.

Only supporting vendors can post Group Purchase threads.

Members can include a mention of their personal businesses in their signatures so long as the enterprise does not compete with an existing supporting vendor, is not Corvette-related and is not so detailed or so frequently appended to their posts that it becomes inappropriate marketing and promotion.
