Default Heads??

hey guys,

I'm trying to do some research and have a few questions. I have an 02 Z and am thinking about uprgrading the cam and heads in the future. I'm only looking to be around 450RWHP. I wouldn't mind having more, but not sure when it is time to upgrade the drivetrain parts as well. Back on topic though. Can a port and polish job on the LS6 heads do any good? If not then what are some good heads that will get me where I want to be? Would it be possible to keep my LS6 heads get them ported and then upgrade the valvetrain to complement my Cam as an option? I haven't quite settled on a cam that is why I'm kind of keeping it general. I know there are better heads out there, just not sure if they are what I need for my goals.

TIA

Josh

Daily Driver or just weekend warrior? What drivability issues do you think you could tolerate?

For the very best go with TFS, ETP, or AFR heads. LS6 and GM casting heads are fine ported and polished, you may want to do the full and complete work on the heads though, P/P, valve job, valve guides, springs etc.

450rwhp, I would say some good heads and a 230/232 or 228 range cam would get you in the neighborhood with all of the supporting bolt-ons.

My dream setup on the Z06 is ETP 215's (or now the new TFS heads), ECS cam, and supporting bolt-ons.

It's my daily driver now and probably will continue to be for a while. I can tolerate quite a bit of driveabilitie issues. That wouldn't be too bad for me. A lot of the things that most people find bad or irritating I tend to like. My B&B Bullets are a fine example. I nice lobe from my cam @ idle would be sweet. I was thinking of an LG cam. What is the consensus on those?

Sounds like you're a good candidate for a LG G5X-3. With good tuning, it'll acheive your goals with just warmed over LS6 heads. It'd be worth it to go aftermarket, IMHO, on the heads. As mentioned above, you'll get better results with these brands, than you would with ported 243s. You can then sell your stock heads to recoup some of your expenses.

My suggestion would be to go with a heads/cam package from the same tuner, that way you'll know they were meant to go together. Also, if you feel a company doesn't have the time to fully answer questions about your objectives or their products then find another company.

Here's a link to my project where the result was dissapointing. I hope it helps you avoid this type of frustration.
