I think they work pretty well. I only speak from experience from seeing one on my cousins car. I have heard of some discoloring over time. IMHO i dont like them because up close you can see a line were the bra stops.
I would suggest that you have a certified installer do it.
To respond to 2klude: For the front bumber most vendors can order a larger piece of film to cut the pattern. This is what I did on mine. What this does is eliminate the split or stop lines. When installed and cut properly the bra ends where the bumber ends. I did not have them install the hood piece (you would have seen a small line), but I did do the headlights.
The visibility also depends on the color of your car. In short - I would get it doen from a real 3M vendor.
I had the 3 M product installed a couple of weeks ago and I have
been quite satisfied to date. The bra comes with a 5 year warranty
against discoloring and cracking. I had this product on a truck 10
years ago when it first came out and that bra did a great job--
the new bra is much better thicker and better protection. You can
install yourself but frankly I would have a pro do it. My installer
spent 2 to 3 hours on the job and it turned out well; standing 4 feet
from the car you can't see the lines.

There are kits out there that you can purchase and install. I highly recommend not doing it yourself to save money. I've seen what amount of labor and attention to detail it takes to apply to the vehicle. The front clip is removed, a new C5 badge is reapplied, (can't cut around the badge, it would look dorky) a special spray to prep the surface is applied...heck, the installer even used a fine syringe for diabetics to remove any water left underneath the surface after install. That's why you should have someone who is experienced handle this. Materials and labor is not cheap. (My C3 was $850, C5 was $1,400 and Z28 was $1,200)
As for yellowing, no, that is not a true statement. The material has UV inhibitors that prevents this.
I speak from experience (he did my C3 5 years ago) and alot of $$$ spent, this stuff is well worth the money.
The front, wheel wells and rocker panels of C5 Corvettes are so low to the ground, they take a real beating. The 3M product prevents that.
I have a friend who is about as meticulous as you can get about his cars. He had an authorized 3M installer put the film on his Ford GT40 . It looks good, because they broke the film at established joints on the car body( like the bumper on a vette), so you really didn't see any "lines". So far it has looked and worked fine. I wish the previous owner of my 03 electron blue vette had used this stuff.Talk about road rash!! I may at some point get the bumper and rocker panels repainted and then have the 3M film put on.
