Default Ride height question

What are my options as far as adding ride height to my 98 C5? Its seems very low. I would like to stop cracking my mud guards all the time. Would it be easier to change tire size? And if so what tire size would anyone recommend? Maybe a spring change? Any advice is appreciated.

It looks from the pic of your car (if that is the pic of your car) that it has been lowered and quite a bit from what I can tell.

You can easily reverse the lowering process and raise back up. The only problem you may run into then is on the front where they may have cut the bushings from the the adjuster bolts to make it even lower.

I suggest you reverse the lowering procedure (do a search here on the forum for tips/directions) but do it equally by about four or five threads on the bolts until you are happy with the results.

Even guys who have lowered on stock bolts have scraping of the front airdam/spoilers sometimes.

Hope this helps!

Just remove the mud guards (assuming you mean mud flaps and not the front spoiler pieces)and steer around the mud puddles. That would be easiest. Other than that you may be able to adjust the bolts on the springs to raise the car. I know you can lower the car this way so maybe you could raise it this way to. ? ? ?

Do you have problems with the sideskirts scraping too? Thats what would worry me.

Judging from photo your car has been lowered, hopefully on stock bolts, but I doubt it as previously stated search lowering and you will read about the methods your bushings have probably been cut/ removed ,but you can locate replacements and put it back to stock or slightly lower if you want

I am using splash guards, but they are the 1/8"thick flexible (not molded) type. They were $10 and use factory mount points.

Maybe you should switch to them?!?

Thanks for the help...i knew i could count on you guys.
I did a search and found the stock ride height for a c5 was 27 3/8in. in front and 28 5/8in. in the rear. My actual ride height is 26 7/8in. in front and 27 3/4in. in the rear. Apparantly some adjustments were made.
My next question would be if i can readjust the bolts to increase the ride height beyond the stock setting without it having an adverse affect
on my active handling.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't think i have to be exactly at stock height but i hate that scraping sound. I got under the car and visually inspected the bolts and there is very little thread showing which confirms that they have been altered. I'm going to be returning them to their approximate stock position before i take her on the road again.

You are gonna laugh... yes, they are black. They are the SUV flaps available at Pep Boys. I paid $9.99 back a few years ago.

I only did the front though - not worried about the rear (with clear tape to save the fender edge).

The touch on dips occasionally, but just bend out of the way.

Here are some pix...
