Default broken vacuum lines under battery box

Hi all
Just bought a 99 vert and pulled the battery box out and found the broken ends of two vacuun lines coming from the vacuum check valve on the bottom of thevacuum tank. This would be an easy fix if I could figure out where those vacuum lines are supposed to attach to under the dash.I pulled the passenger side lower dash down but ther are no similar lines like my broken ones.Have ordered the factory manual and am reluctant to go any further without a schematic. One of these broken lines is supposed to go to the engine harness and the other is supposed to go to the I/P harness vacuum connector whatever that is.Any guidance would be appreciated
Best regards Greg

Greg,

I had that problem and the fix was not too difficult. The two vacuum lines control the HVAC vent doors opening and closing. For example, when you press the defrost button on the ip, certain doors open and others close so that the heated air is directed to the windshield. Since your vacuum lines are broken, as mine were, you cannot direct the heated/cooled air.

If you are lucky, both ends of the two vacuum lines are present so that you can simply rejoin them. The vacuum line is a standard size and sold in most auto part stores. Look for the joiner piece that has a thinner diameter than the vacuum line. Simply reconnect the two broken ends of the vacuum line and you are in business.

If all the broken lines are not visible, you must separate the wiring harnesses and hunt for them.

yeah i had the same prob with my 99 frc. the prev owner bragged about putting an optima battery in there and i later found out why. The orig battery leaked all over the wiring harness and vaccum lines under the battery. Fortunately the wires were left unharmed, but the vinyl vaccum lines were toast. One line was easily mended with some fuel line whose I.D. matched the O.D. of the vinyl line. The other one which ran from the inside of the passenger fender to the back of the intake manifold was not so easy. The vinyl had dissolved all the way up to the rubber elbow on the back of the intake. I pulled the intake manifold off and used some clear vinyl tubing to run a new line down to the passenger fenderwell to fix my HVAC. Hopefully yours is easier to fix.

I just went through a similar problem a few weeks ago. I changed the battery and found a broken vaccuum line from a previous battery leak. I spliced in a quick repair, and all is good.

Default Fix it forever

I had the same issue. When I repaired the vacuum lines, I encased them in 3/16" ID rubber fuel line (Buy at any Home Improvement store) as they ran through the battery compartment up to the check valve. Then secured them to the wiring harnesses using nylon cable ties. Never have to worry about them getting damaged again. Just a suggestion.
