Default Advice on finding original owner

I purchased a 2001 vert at Thanksgiving that was traded in to a dealer in Virginia. The car was originally delivered to a dealer in CT from the factory. The car was absolutely perfect with only 14,000 miles. The dealer I bought from said they could not give the original owners name due to privacy reasons. Does anyone know a way to locate the original owner?

By law they have to give you the old owners name. but you can call the dealer that it came from the first time and they should be able to tell you who they sold it to.

you can do a title search through your dmv. if the first title in your state shows an out of state original, contact that state and repeat the process. i located the original owner of my 72 lt-1 and he sent me all the original documentation on the car: order form, invoice, sales brochures, warranty work receipts, window sticker and a lot more.

See if the CT DMV can give you the name of the original owner.

I was lucky! I contacted the selling dealer (obtained from the window sticker). He also had concerns about privacy but was nice enough to contact the customer to see if he would mind if his name was disclosed. So you may want to try that. Another source is the C5 registry. I'm not as framiliar with those folks but that also may lead to something. Good luck.

As long as they are not like NY State and discard the records if the car hasn't been licensed in the state in 3 years.

How 'bout get'n an original window sticker from the Corvette Museum. Just submit your VIN. They will have the state and dealer where the car was originally delivered. You could start there and try to contact the original owner. Good luck in your search.
