So I go to Lowes yesterday morning to buy a $30 bag of fertilizer. I just happen to walk by the flooring section and see black and white checkerboard vinyl tiles. After seeing all your awesome garage pics, I couldn't resist.
I have always wanted a checkerboard garage floor. I had been watching forum and studying floor mats, tiles, etc. But I was not planning on spending all day yesterday doing this project, but I LOVE IT
FYI: 18" tiles, $1.74 each (but w/ my commercial credit account, I got 10% off) Self adhesive back. Very easy to apply. Just time consuming. So for my approx. 20 x 10 area, it cost about $200.
I am concerned about the "stickiness" issue also. But once I got them down, they do NOT want to come back up. Considering I drive 1/2 MPH into my garage, I cant see it being a problem. I just wont do MANY burnouts in my garage The problem Im more worried about is just wear. It really is just a vinyl face on top of pressed cardboard. But for $200 vs. all the others Ive looked at, Im willing to try it out.
My buddy used this in his garage. The only thing to watch out for is coming in with hot tires. He lays out a strip of carpet to drive on and then has the tires sit on the carpet as well. Other than that, he has not had any issues.
You did a great job!!!
