Ive been having an issue with my 98 coupe lately in which neither of the 2 key fobs will work. We replaced the batteries in each of the fobs and tried to reprogram them. One we managed to get reprogrammed, but the other wouldn't. Within a day or two, the fob that was reprogrammed quit working. Now, I cannot even get the car to acknowledge it while trying to reprogram it. Are both fobs probably dead or is something else causing this? Of course this issue didn't appear until we try to sell the car Thanks!
A while back I had a similar problem in that they wouldn't retain their memory, and short range, like standing next to the Vette. Even after replacing the batteries, same situation.
I then did the Matching procedure, then the Retrain procedure. Since then, about 9-10 months ago, everything is still working just fine.

That matching procedure is actually how I was attempting to reprogram them. When I hold down lock+unlock, the DIC never acknowledges either of the 2 transmitters.
Often, intermittant problems with the fob are due to weak battery contacts. You bump the fob, momemtary contact is lost, and the fob loses sync. Open the fob, carefully pry up the battery contacts so they put more pressure on the battery. Worked for me.

I tried that to the fob I have with me and I did the lock+unlock outside the car for 10 seconds and its working now. Maybe that was the issue. However, I wouldn't be surprised if fob #2 is dead because I never used it.
