Default need help with oil changes?????

Does any one know whats the oil capacity for the motor (6quarts I think) MN6 transmission (4 quarts I think) and the diff ( no clue). Im going with Wall Mart full synthetic for the motor, I know my trans take regular ATF fluid (1999 vette) becaus I have some kind of paper blocker rings that synthetic oil ruins, and gear oil for the diff. I did hear I have to put some kind of additive to the gear oil for tracktion or something like that

any input would help!

The engine takes 6.5 quarts of oil in the crankcase. IMO, use Mobil 1 or an equivalent oil.

Default I Think I Understand

Oil capacity - 6.5 quarts of 5W-30 w/filter change, DO NOT USE Wally World Synthetic - DOES NOT MEET GM Specs. Use Mobil 1, Penzoil Platinum Synthetic, Redline, Royal Purple, AMSOil full synthetic

1999 MN6 has celulose (paper) blockers and most synthetics will cause them to swell and fail, use AMSOil Synthetic ATF 3.5 quarts (or until it runs out of the fill hole, full when level with bottom of fill hole), won't harm your blockers on a '99.

Differential, uses 1.6 quarts (or until it runs out of the fill hole, full when level with bottom of fill hole) of 75W-90 Synthetic gear lubricant. I put in 3 ounces of GM's Limited slip Axle lubricant additive. Some use more, some less, and some use none. Get at dealer, GM Part # 1052358. I used with Mobil 1 gear lubricant. No differential chatter. Others such as Royal Purple, AMSOil don't need the additive according to forum members who use these products. If you use the additive put in after 1 st quart is in, then top off with the second quart, otherwise you can't add it after the differential is full.

You'll need some kind of pump (I used suction guns, $10.00 at local parts store) to get the fluids into the MN6 and/or differential. You can't overfill the MN6 transmission or differential. Fluid will run back out the fill hole when filled. Make sure car is flat and level when filling. Especially if you have it up on jack stands.

Fluid capacities and specs are in your owner's manual.
