Another Tire and Wheel Question - Need Help!
I posted this in Tires & Wheels, only got (1) response. Looking for more thoughts, please.
I'm trying to decide the right tire/wheel sizes. I'm looking at the C6ZO6 wheels in 18 X 9.5 and 19 X 11, and putting the C6 size tires on to keep with runflats. But looking at the Firestone Wide Oval runflats. Anyway, tire sizes would be 245/40-18 and 285/35-19.
My question is, while the tire specs say the 245/40-18 can be mounted on a 9.5" wide rim, the section width is just 9.4". Will that be stretching the bead too much? I don't want the rim sticking outside the sidewall of the tire.
Any thoughts on that angle would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck

1145-886156S 18X8.5 Hyper Silver Dark 5x120.65 (+56mm)
you can also get them in a 19x10 which will be much better for the rear tire size you're wanting:
1145-916156C 19x10 Chrome 5x120.65 (+56mm)
1145-916156S 19x10 Hyper Silver Dark 5x120.65 (+56mm)
just don't get the +79mm offset, as that is the OEM c6 size and it will be tucked too far in.

I need to talk to Bob at House of Wheels or Tom at Tom'z Wheels and get the sizes I need.
By the way, are those part nos. ahead of the wheel sizes? If so, from where?

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Basically, an ideal tire width size for an 9.5 inch wide wheel is a 275mm tire. Moreover, an ideal tire width size for an 11.0 inch wide wheel is a 315mm tire. However, with that being said, another tenet to keep in mind is that you may, indeed, go up, or, down one tire width size upon the same sized example wheel. To explain, you may mount a 265mm tire width size onto an 9.5 inch wide wheel, and, by the same token, mount an 305mm tire width size onto an 11.0 inch wide wheel. And, as you can see by the above posts, some of our fellow members have done so.
Chux, it is important to note that not all sizes are available in all brands and models of tires. Thus, do your homework. It is imperative that you become more informed by researching the web, and, the CF archives, as well as, various informative tire links such as The Tire Rack, Discount Tire, 1010Tire, etc., and, other tire manufacturer links for more up to date tire product releases. And, because you are a "noobie", I will offer the following examples in an effort to assist you in this endeavor. To begin, here are four major tire brands for you to consider for your 18X9.5 Front and 19X11.0 inch example wheels:
1).Continental ContiSport Contact 2's in sizes 275/30-ZR18 (96Y-XL) for the Front, and, 315/25-ZR19 (SL) for the Rear.
2). Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's in sizes 265/35-ZR18 (97Y-XL) for the Fronts, and, the 315/25-ZR19 (98Y-XL) for the Rears.
3). The new Falken FX-452's in sizes 265/35-ZR18 (97Y) for the Fronts, and, the 315/25-ZR19 (94Y) for the Rears.
And, last, but, not least, and, a particular favorite of mine are 4). the Pirelli PZero-Rosso Assimetrico's in sizes 275/35-18 (95Y-SL) for the Fronts, and, the 305/30-ZR19 (98Y-SL) for the Rears. In fact, the new 315/25-ZR19 tire width size in this model tire is forthcoming. Always research actual availability of tire sizes and models, first. Again, some sizes and models are not available in all tire brands. If you have any further questions regarding Traction Control and Overall Diameters, do feel free to PM me, and, I would be happy to offer further feedback. The best of luck to you.

Well written
1. Goodyear clearly states the C6 stock sized EMT's (in either base or Z51 flavors) will mount ok (in the same sizes as the proposed Firestones).
245/40/18 on 18x9.5"
285/35/19 on 19x11"
2. John and Chip at CCW also back this up. My car has this wheel/tire combo and it works fine. It does not look too stretched.

I can not vouch for the "look" though.
Chuck

It does not look bad what so ever! But when I get rid of my run-flats(when they are worn down of course) I will be getting the 305's for the rear and 265's for the front!
Respond to this so later when I get home I can be reminded to shoot some pics and post them for you! It will end up in my e-mail!
Thanks,Matt
Chuck1026, your setup looks great, and I also looked at the TireRack specs on the Firestones, but I'm still concerned with the "look". So many of the responses say be cautious with that size tire on that size rim. That's why jdmvette's suggestion to go down to 18X8.5 and 19X10 made sense. But I know you did a lot of research for yours. I even looked back on a thread in Jan. where you talked about the section width actually grows a little with the wider rim.
Madmat, look forward to your pics.
Thanks again, guys, for all the help. Oh, such big decisions!

Yes, the 275/295 setup would be best if you do not want EMT's but wish to go to a 18/19 wheel and keep your rolling diameters very close. A 305 rear tire is a bit further off than the 295 (depending on profile, of course).
If you want EMT's (like I did), going the route I did works well. My rear tires have an 11" contact patch

The pictures don't lie and I can say that it rides and tracks perfectly

once again i'd do 245/40-18 w/ 18x8.5
and 285/35-19 w/ 19x10 @56mm
to avoid the stretched look and to not have the wheel kiss the curb without protection from the tire sidewall.

p.s. listen to the advice offered by eden, the points made are the most valid you'll get.
