Default Belt squeek

I have had a LOUDDD squeek for some time now. I thought just replace the belt, BUTTT every one is telling me it could be the harmonic balancer. Have yall seen alot of these?? Looks like its almost shakes!!

Default Harmonic balancer

If the harmonic balancer is wobbling, you need to get it checked out asap.

Im going out on a limb here and everyone is probably going to think Im nuts but back in the day when the belt in my little Corolla used to squeek I'd get a bar of soap and rub it on the inside of the belt. Then I'd start the car turn it off and repeat the process.

Hope this helps

Dave

Quest. 1....Does it sqeak, all the time, or start getting noisy after a warm up.

Quest. 2....Does it go away after about 1 hour of driving, or whatever,?

It is probably a pulley. I changed several before I found it.

Check the pulleys on the A/C belt. Both of mine went bad and local parts stores don't carry them. They are a beotch to replace, too. Check some of the vendors on this site to get some quality ones much cheaper than the stealerships will sell them for.

GM has a new belt idler pulley and tensioner to fix this problem. If anyone is interested please contact me directly.

Spray some water on belt. If squeal stops thats probably your problem.

I wouldn't wait to get this checked, or take a long trip...
My serpentine belt broke in December. I had the dealer replace it.
The belt soon started squeaking, which it hadn't done before. 300 miles later the new belt slipped off the pulleys. Stranded again.
This time they replaced the tensioning pulley. Your belt is telling you something is wrong.
