I just get in push the clutch in, turn the key to on and while the guages are sweeping I put on my seatbelt, and by the time I have my seatbelt on the guages are done, then I start the car up.

Yep, let my seat memory cycle, gauges sweep, fuel pump cycle, then hit it. I also don't let it idle more than a minute before taking off. Unless it's below 20 degrees, I'll wait a couple if minutes. I just drive slowly for five miles till warm.

I turn the key and let the guages cycle, start the car and wait to put it in gear until the oil pressure gets up.

Here's the deal....

Stick the key in. Seats get adjusted. AC/radio turn on right away; I shut them. The gauges cycle very quickly, so I don't pay attention to that. BUT I let the fuel pump do its thing, and get it going, and THEN I CRANK. This way it cranks sooner. Otherwise, it takes another second of cranking, which I'd rather avoid (during cold starts). After this, let it warm up for a mintue or so, or push on the gas a lil to get it goin'''

Chevy Mechanic told me that you should always do this...and that if
you don't wait for the gauges to cycle you may wind up with
EBCM issues/malfunction..
Not sure about that...never saw the connection..

This is all very interesting, but is there anyone lurking about here that knows what the "proper" procedure. Perhaps a GM engineer?

I like to let the guages and lights cycle so I can review them. It also lets the fuel system pressurize.

That's exactly what the guy in post #32 said. But this is the right way in a nutshell.
