I currently have black plastic letters and am not too excited with them.

Send me a set and I'll be your poster boy!

These are the Black Chrome SS Inserts I just received tonight and installed. Will be taking better photos later, but these were taken after midnight in my garage just to get something posted quick.

These photos will probably not be much help since in order to take a photo in which the reflective properties will be fully realized, they will look pretty much like the regular chrome inserts.

To put it simply, you are in essence taking a photo of a "mirror". A mirror is "colorless". Therefore these will always reflect whatever is incident to the camera lens (or your eye). So, if you photograph them from an angle and the wall at the incident angle opposite you is white, they will appear almost white (just slightly more subdued than the "regular" chrome inserts), but you would have to put the two side by side to notice any difference since the human eye will automatically set the white balance and make them appear virtually "white" if viewed individually. If the wall incident is "black", the letters will appear black (on a black car virtually invisible). The only real visual difference between regular chrome and black chrome is in reflected environments that fall between black and white (greytones) - especially in the lower quarter-tones. (i.e. they will require a higher minimum reflected environment to be noticed.) The reason these appear like regular chrome in my photos is because I am using a white bounce material propped up below the camera - if I remove the white material and replace it with black material you would see no reflections (just like a black low-reflective plastic) - in fact you would notice the curves of the embossed black factory letters more than the inserts.

I was hoping for something more subtle for my black car than just regular chrome and these are as subtle as you can get and still have an element of reflectivity.

My guess is that these would look outstanding on your paint color.

These should look pretty cool outside - especially around sundown when the ambient light is low, but still picking up sky reflections - can wait to see them in natural light!

I already have a vinyl set of letters on my car now and I really wasnt happy with the fitment, how do the SS inserts compare? I know they are laser cut but does that make the fitment 100%? Thanks guys

They look more like brushed stainless steel to my untrained eye. I think they would look especially good on Pewter, Spiral Gray and Machine Silver Vettes.
