I put a large bottle (treats 20 gallons) of Chevron techron fuel additive in this past weekend, then ran to NC and back, a 500 mile round trip. The car idled like S**T, with the additive in the gas. But after I refueled........
BEAUTIFULLY smooth. Even my wife noticed this AM, she said "boy this thing is running smooth, it usually shakes at idle". So anyrate, thanks for the tip, if you are considering trying it, GO FOR IT! My car is an '04 with 35K miles, so even with low miles, these injectors tend to crud up!
I've run 93 Octane since I've bought it, my gas choices are limited, I typically run the premium fuel from my supermarket, Martin's, they knock off .10 a gallon for every $100 you spend in their store. So in many cases I save .20 -.40 a gallon. Runs great on it, never pings, power is fine. My car shook since day one, when bought it back in DEC. I will probably throw a can of Techron in every three months.
I would run a bottle every 5,000 miles. I time it with each oil change. Easy to remember. And if you change your oil more often adding the Techtron will not be a problem.
This topic has been discussed over and over on this forum, but here's one more. Use TopTier gas. Seems not all gas is created equal. Chevron, Shell, Mobil, 76Union, all have cleaning additives that help keep our injectors clean. Even so, I still use Techron at every oil change. Can't hurt. Anyone wanting more info, do a search. I'm sure there's tons of info.

I agree.
I didn't believe the top tier story before but my fuel guage stuck six months back (Techron fixed it!) and I switched to top tier gas and no problems since...
I had to use some crap gas a week ago and my fuel gauge stuck at 0 with half a tank in it. Grabbed some Techron and presto! Instant repair again!
My 98 M6 had gas gauge problems in the past. So unreliable that I had to use my Trip B DIC to keep track of the miles so I would know when to refill the fuel tank. Switched to Shell 93 Top Tier gas and the fuel gauge problem is history. Fuel gauge has been right on the money. Driving is a pleasure again.

I agree, I only use top tier gas in mine also. I had never used an additive before, but I did buy a container of Techron today, will run it through next time I fill up. I only put on about 2500-3000 miles per year here in WI, so it will now an annual event.

None of these brands are available in western PA. Is BP or Sunoco considered high grade??
I use 91 octane from Chevron or Shell here in SoCal. We can't get 93 anymore. I also added a bottle of Techron to hopefullly stop the fuel gauge from suddenly dropping to empty at about1/2 tank. It worked for about 1-2 weeks, and I still have the gas gauge problem intermittently. Miracle cure or snake oil? What about other major fuel system and injector cleaners? Seems like many Forum members are stuck on Techron. I'm not sure its any better than the others.
I wonder if these gas gage problems are caused by emissions grade gasoline. I've put 5000 miles on the car since purchase, and used all (which is what I have in rural America) non name brand, non emissions, 93 octane gasoline, no fuel sender problems. Now remember, my car was used, I don't have a clue what the prior owner used, could even be regular. But I will tell you this, my car rocked, and chattered in first from day 1 I owned it, the techron definitely cleaned the injectors.
My other vehicles here run PERFECT on the Local gas, but they are all Fords. This gas gage issue I have NEVER heard about in another car, it may be something in the material used to make the Corvette plastic gas tank that coats the sender and causes failures. Perhaps some kind of resin leaching from the tank plastic.
I'm hard-pressed to believe that Techron causes rough idle, even at over the dosage. I suspect that it was the gas you put in with the Techron. I have triple/quadruple dosed with Redline SI-1 and never a problem.
