Default windshield thickness

someone told me that the windshield glass on the Z06s are thinner than the other 'vette windshields in order to save weight;any truth here,or is this ine of those urban legends?if it is so,does anyone have the appropriate stock number for the Z?!...thanks

What I'd like to know is, when you buy a Z06 windshield, can you add in the antenna strip that goes across the windshield to it once its installed, assuming you have a coupe? I'm assuming so, but since the Z06 has a mast antenna in the back, no Z06 ever came with an antenna strip from the factory. I'm assuming during installation, it can just be attached, right?

i'd have to say yes. i wouldn't think the thickness of the glass would prevent you from doing it. my only hope is that you would be doing a Z06 windshield install because your stock one is bad and not for the weight savings.

I have read in several sources that it is true. I don't know why they would bother for just 5lbs. I guess every little bit helps when it comes to specs and looking good on paper.

it's ALL about weight reduction.there's no power shotgun seat, retractable antenna, telescoping steering wheel, etc. the 'vette engineers really shaved quite afew pounds off the Z;mostly,in ounce increments! lighter is faster,it's all about pounds per horsepower !

"On the Z06, both the windshield and backlight have been thinned to save weight, but resistance to stone chipping has been maintained. A total of 5.7 pounds was eliminated. There is some loss of interior noise isolation as a result, but in a car like the Z06 this may not prove to be a "turn-off" because the additional sound level inside tends to put driver and passenger more in tune with the machine. There are "good" noises and "bad" noises, and real enthusiasts know the difference.

Reducing the Z06's weight by more than 36 pounds overall, boosting its power output by 40 hp, and broadening its operating range, made a significant improvement in the car's power-to-weight ratio."

When I pass my fingernail over the antenna on my coupe, I can feel it, I think its just a magnetic strip attached to the windshield, if that's the case, I can imagine it would be fairly simple to attach the antenna to a Z06 windshield.

I wouldn't get rid of a perfectly good windshield for 5.7 lbs but if I ever crack the stock one or get too many chips on it, I'll get the Z06 one.

I wear about 5 lbs. less clothes in the summer. My car doesn't feel that much faster.

Get the thicker windshield and dump the girlfriend - over 100-lbs in weight reduction (no special tools required) and quieter than 70-lbs of Dynamat and ensolite!
