Default Maplights (Replacement Solutions)

Hey All,
Did the footwells and cargo area today, on to Maplights

Are there any plug and play LED arrays for the Maplights on the electrochromic mirror that don't require soldering? I don't really want to go with Spdkilz's solution of removing the bulbs and soldering in the new ones.

I've read all the other posts on this topic but I don't really grasp the concept of the recommended "festoon" bulb on autolumination's site. The festoon looks like it has metal tips on each end but my current setup is a circuit board with 6 LEDs and a power wire clipped on. Are they for non-electrochromic mirrors only?

So I guess the real question is... Can I buy RED LED arrays that have the same power socket to plug the power cables into?

Thanks in advance

Check these out... He didn't list the source though.

The Festoons were changed over to LED arrays sometime in 2000 I believe.

Default Thats the only way

The only way to change the LED's in the Electrochromatic mirror is to unsodder the old and sodder in the new. The mirror, radio and HVAC controler all require soddering to change the LED's.

Sound likes a winner. You'd be the first...let us know how it turns out

Someone's gotta go first. This is just considered R&D around here...

EDIT::: Just thought of this too... you could just get a regular mirror installed and replace those bulbs with 211-2, 44mm, 9 LED bulbs...

Thats what I have on there right now.... I cut 2 squares out of a red DJ lighting gel.... worked good, it's just not very bright.

Love the look of yours, I used your pic in my last post about "footwell and cargo leds" as a basis of what I ultimately want mine to look like.

Do you know the measurements of the board in the mirror now? Look at this... Scroll all the way down the page;

Anyone know if replacements bulbs/circuit boards can be bought from GM? Like if bulbs burn out? If I'm going to do any soldering, I'd like to have a backup and keep a set of stock ones anyway.

You can probably get a used mirror off of Ebay cheaper... The more I look at the stock board, that link I sent you might work. You'd have to swap plugs though...

Which bulb on that link? 3022-x9 LED Festoon bulb? I didn't really see one that could work.

Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, it's a universal PCB w/LEDs and a variety of plugs...

Sorry to say that the universal PCB is too big. There are 6 5mm LED's in a tight pattern on each side. There is just enough room for the original circut board. That being said, this mod was the first of the LED installs I did. It took me all of an hour to replace the LED's.

My recomendation would be to replace the factory LED's with 8000mcd White LED's.

I'm doing RED LEDs.... do you recommend 5mm 8000mcd for those as well?
