Immediately after the dealership performed the 50K service on my perfectly working transmission I have been getting some slippage and I am getting some P1870 codes... How do I check the fluid level, and is there any obvious thing I should check before going back to complain? Thanks.

i think u have to get under the car to check the fluid level
what year is your car and what type of trans does it have?
if your car is a late model (C5 ???) with a stock automatic trans (C5 ???), something else to consider is that your gm dealer probably changed your trans fluid type to the new dexron vi. that may have an affect on how it shifts. iv'e heard the new style fluid makes a noticable difference in the shifts for the better.

the code DTC P1870 means: Transmission Component Slipping and i would not clear that code so that the date code on it will still be intact.
since the dealership did the change and they have a nice car lift (or 10), i would simply take it back into them and explain the situation. ask them to at least check your trans fluid level. if there not total jerks, they should at least do that for you.
some questions you may want to ask while your there:
did they change all of the trans fluid via a flush or did they just drain what was in the pan?
did they change the filter?
what type of fluid did they use (dexron iii or dexron vi)?
did the tech check the fluid level with the car running?
was the car and fluid HOT when it was checked?
was the tech who servicd your trans a "world class" gm certified technician or did he have just the "ase" cert that your grandma could get.
also, i believe the dexron vi is backward compatable with the dexron iii but id'e ask anyway as my memory sometimes fails me as i get older.
if nothing else, the answers to these questions will help your case when you have to ask the regional rep to replace your transmission.
good luck brother.

I was thinking of replacing my Tranny fluids, and screns. But I have been very hesitant. My father always told me to LEAVE that alone it's working fine. I have a 2000 Vert A4 with 53,132 miles. I dont need to be replacing a tranny It not paid for yet. what do you think?
mr gm tech tells me i should change every 3 years or 36k,
do a search on transmission and you read a lot about people changing at 50 to 60k and that fresh fluid is loosing up gummed particles causing problems,
