[Z06] C6 or C5Z06, which one would you choose and why?

I'm pretty sure it was 3.9, at least at first anyways. I seem to remember that getting changed. I could be wrong, it's happened once before

Its slightly heavier, more computer intrusion and who knows what other excuses we will have to make for it after its on the market. I don't keep tabs, but its going to take the c6.5 about 0.5 sec in ET or more and about 75 more hp to catch the c5z. You would think GM would have seen to this, but somehow I doubt it again.

Mike,
..A couple months ago I was exactly where you are now. I was having trouble deciding between a Z51 C6 and a C5Z. I chose the C5Z because it is a more performance oriented car and I got mine for about 10K less than I would have had to pay for a C6 with similar options and mileage.

I still catch myself looking at the C6's (got my eye on an 05 as I speak) but at the end of the day, I every day I come home and see the Z in the garage.

car and driver ran 4.0 0-60 Chevy boasted 3.9 due to the driver not using the clutch on upshifts.. WTF? Anothe factor no one has mentioned is curb weight.. 175 lbs of extra weight on the c6

Im in a similar boat.. and although IMO the C6 interior is nicer then the C5... I just cant get around the styling. hell i even like the c5 coupe exterior styling more then the c6. For me it boils down to bang for the back. a good condition 05 c6 coupe is high 30s.. a good condition 02 z0 can be had for 26-30k depending on how lucky you get. Thats alot of money to do heads/cam or hell even a ls2 stroker, Wheels, suspension and a fancy head unit in the Z06.. comming from a 98 Supra.. i think the FRC style is just HOT.. although the coupe is sexy and i could be happy driving one... FRC style all the way.

Everyone has their preference. I personally wouldn't go from a c5 to a c6 unless it was a c6z or c6 zr1. Especially with the upgrades you've done to the c5. I guess you'll know for sure how you feel after your drive.

I was looking at C5Z and C6 Vettes last year....looks, handling, feel, power led me to buy a 03 C5Z, its a gorgeous, raw car, no regrets.

Looks alone, C5 Z. A very well balanced car. Later on I decided I wanted more power but could not stand the thought of getting rid of my Z06 so I opted to replace my LS6 with a LS7. It was costly, and yes I could have sold my car and bought a C6 Z06 for what it cost me to do the swap but in the end I am happy with my decision I have the look I want and the power on tap when I need it. Not to mention the attention it gets at the car shows

We own a C5Z and a 2009 C6 6spd (LS3 car, improved steering over previous C6, etc). The cars are much different experiences, and frankly one could prefer one over the other, depending on what they're looking for in their driving experience. In our case, we both tend to gravitate toward using the C5Z more than the C6. The C6 is more of a Cadillac, relative to the C5Z...so, for that reason the girl commutes in the C6 62 miles per day...it's easy. For cruising the strip, going to meets, hitting the canyons, it's takes a quick second. The LS3 is a great motor, that's clear, but the Z's are more focused driver cars, more connected, more interactive, etc.
To be honest, if it required a choice of which to own, it'd be a tough one...I'd likely say the C6 and then have to start modifying the car immediately to sharpen it, but the C5Z really does that job already, at only a slight power disadvantage. The C6 base level cars are too compliant, under braked, etc.
In the current state, our C5Z has big brakes, full suspension, AR Long tubes and modded Ti with carbon 4" tips...the car is honed and sharpened for the street, while retaining enough compliance that it's easily streetable.... the C6 we have feels like a creampuff of a car by comparison, though a capable one relative to other traffic.

Love my 2002 C5 Z06, has Johnny O'Connell Shocks and Sways, Hawk Wheels, and special Valve Springs, Custom C6 shifter with custom boot and custom arm rest cover also.

I'm facing this decision for a second time. I need a dailey driver [only work p/t about 2 miles from home]. A few years ago price steered me to a ultra low mileage perfect '02z. I use car for shows and sat cruises. Decided on a vette for a dailey driver, budget in low-mid 20's. Might go higher if car blows me away. Can't decide on a c6 or another c5z, so many nice ones out there. Also have a pickup for bad weather. Started looking for a nice c6 manual but keep finding c5z's.

I just think a clean C5Z is a more special car than a C6 base. Having all the DIC diagnositc functions of the C5Z make it an easier car to own for guys who aren't real equipped tooling wise. C6 is an easier ingress/egress for daily use though, for sure. The girl and I have this battle daily...I thoroughly enjoy driving them both and it's a tough choice a lot of times...lol. My Z is way more aggressive and sick of a car though...we need to mod the C6 more.
