Yeah, I was probably overly-concerned about it. Although I did read that some people that use it have a louder engine upon startup.

Also some people contacted Mobile 1 early on and they told them basically that they can't use it. The contacts at Mobile 1 were just relaying the correct information at the time (as the GM certification wasn't done at the time perhaps), but now the oil has gone through the GM certification process.

Actually I wonder why GM has its own special standard for oil anyways as I don't believe even Porsche has one. Not that Porsche engines are better, but if any car manufacturer is going to have one you would think an automobile as expensive as some of the Porsche vehicles would have one.

Mercedes has oil specs for the different engines they have. But, they also list all the oils that meet their spec so you don't have to "guess" at which oils they recommend. You read the owners manual, then purchase any of half a dozen oils, or so, they recommend. No one brand is listed as better , or worse, then another. GM should do the same. Makes one wonder why, out of all the oils which meet GM's spec, they only mention Mobile 1.
If you read the info that's available, GM only states that your Corvette engine is filled at the factory with a Mobile 1 synthetic oil, which meets all the requirements for your vehicle. Nowhere, that I can find, does GM recommend Mobil 1 over any other brand. They only say that you use oils that are identified as meeting GM Standard 4718M and have the Starburst symbol on the front of the oil container.

If you go to the Mobil 1 website and read the specs for regular and extended performance, you will see the main difference is extended performance has more additives.
I think GM may not endorse it under warranty because they don't want to give people the idea that they are also saying it is alright to go 15,000 miles between oil changes,
I also bought extended performance "by accident" when it first came out, but I ran it the regular oil change interval of about 4,500 miles, then went back to regular Mobil 1 because I did not see a reason to pay a premium for the extra additives.

By the way, I have seen lots of Mobil 1 containers, including regular Mobil 1, that do not mention the GM spec. They say something like "selected as original equipment by major manufacturers"
