You will not pass the visual in Ca. Long tubes are not legal in Ca. That being said your car will pass the sniff test with headers....just have to find someone who is 'blind' to them.

Yep, bbob67 has it right... that's what I have heard also and this has not stopped me from considering LT headers.

With a good tune is it possible to pass with no cats... what about high flow cats?

I currently have no cats on my longtube setup... I am not worried about the visual but can i pass the sniffer without cats... i dont think so but its worth asking.

As far as I know its illegal in every state to run a street car without cats. So I doubt you would pass it without cats. Im glad Florida doesnt have emissions tests.

Every state is different. Unfortunatley Cali has some of the most fkd up strict emission laws in the country, so you will not pass, especially with the visual inspection you guys have.
In IL, you can pass with Longtubes on the C5, but you have to have the Rear O2's tuned out (turned off) since all they do is plug in (OBDII) your port no codes and you pass.
Then some of you lucky blokes live in states where there are no emissions laws

Why would LT's be illigal in CA? If you have Cats and pass the emissions test, why would they care about the shape of your exhaust manifold? That's pretty stupid. Sounds like an anti hotrod law, not an emissions law.

High flow cats should be fine. I am so glad that I don't live in California (and I really love the state, because of the beautiful highways ).

Every exhaust related part (emissions) that is replaced on a Cal car must have a CARB (Cal Air Resources Board) number assigned. LT's have never met the requirements in Cal. Don't know why.

Everything forward of and including the Cats that is.

It's yet another example of a "one size fits all" law there in The People's Republik.

The "Visual" makes NO sense. If the emissions are Passed, then its just like all the other stock cars. Its not poluting the state anymore than others. I guess, they're just "Dumb Politicians" who just hate, or discourage ppl from making more powerful cars .

There's many around. You can either ask the shop (who put your headers on) to "refer" a smog shop. They'll usually recommend a blind shop. Another way to do it is to simply talk to the shop. Let 'em know that you'll only pay, if you pass. Most of the times, if you pass the sniffer, they may not object on the visiual...or some of them don't even know the difference.

I know here all they do is hook up ot OBDII so we just erase the codes. They occassionally do visual checks but my car is pretty low so they really won't be able to see anything. They're just a bunch of rednecks here so they really don't even care if they do find something. I'd talk to a local Vette club if i were you and see where they say to go and where to avoid going.

Yes it's stupid and makes little sense but.....

In Ca. you cannot modify (move or touch), the OEM cats. Even if you use cats with LT's, the OEM cats will have been modified.

Because of the above, no LT's will ever be able to get a CARB exemption. The reason some shorties are able to get the CARB exemption is because they bolt right up to the OEM cats without modification.

There are some shorties that do not have CARB exemption because the manufacturer never applied for it.
