Default Tunnel Plate @ eliteengineeringusa.com

Tunnel Plate @ eliteengineeringusa.com

Which one? 1/4, 3/8? Aluminum vs. stainless? Thermal?

Im thinking the Stainless with thermal, but the thicker aluminun worth it over the stainless? Did anyone do this? Could you still thermal over it?

Im getting ready to do my exhaust and its stupid not to do this at the same time.

You can't compare SS and Aluminum on thickness. SS has a much higher KSI than Aluminum.

Aluminum KSI is between 40 and 42 PSI and does not change much between 1/8th of an inch and 3/8 and inch.

Stainless Steel has a KSI of 60 to 68 PSI, depending on the metals composition.

Peace

thank you for the reply. Hmm I wonder why then the "thick aluminum" is selling for more than the SS plate on their site? I kinda figured as much, they claim that aluminum one is their "stiffest" plate...

"This plate offers the most chassis stiffening of any of our products"

ANd it costs $41 more than the stainless.. weird huh?

Aluminum prices are through the roof lately, thats probably where the price difference comes from. Steel is denser, but not too often you see any quality steel wheels, and if they say the aluminum is their stiffer one and its thicker which would make sense, just gotta decide if the $40 is worth it. Is the Vette chassis really that flexy without it though? Its got such a huge backbone frame... do they put it on the C6 Z06?

I bought the ceramic coated (Black Maxx) tunnel plate from CCA. I bought it for two reasons; stiffen the frame and heat reduction. It seems to serve the frame stiffening function well. Does it reduce heat more than the EliteEngineering plate? I'm not sure.

Reason: There are two large holes pre-drilled in the tunnel plate (see pic below) for what I believe allows the installer the ability to pass the O2 sensors through for certain custom exhaust installations.

For some reason I didn't pay close enough attention to the website photo showing the plate with the holes so I was surprised when I found it delivered that way.

I think CCA should offer the plate with or without the holes as it seems logical the holes will allow more heat to accumulate above the tunnel plate than if there were no holes. This is just my opinion of course.

On the other hand, with the ceramic coating on the plate and the holes, it still might reduce heat more than the stock plate but maybe not as much as it could.

Did I say the plate DOES stiffen the frame? That is definitely noticable.

I can only speak for us. I can tell you that there are different material handling costs and finishing costs associated with different metals and different thicknesses. ie...we can laser cut or water jet 3/16, but found it better to Plasma cut 1/4 and up. There are also more man hours associated with the different applications for finishing, so it is not just material costs...

You would not believe me if I told you the difference in shipping costs between a sheet of 3/16 and 1/4

BTW, as stated above, the cost of aluminum has sky rocketed in the last 6 months...

Peace

The C6 has a thicker stock plate than the C5, so someone at GM recognized the need...
