I think I've been discriminated against for "sounding" too fast!
Yesterday afternoon was beautiful weather, so my daughter and her friend wanted me to take them on a short trip in my Corvette. I was taking them on a 3 mile loop around our area. The last part comes up a hill through a neighborhood. I stopped at the stop sign and then turned to come up the hill. About halfway up a woman who was walking down the hill on the sidewalk saw me coming and walked out into the street to yell at me "Slow down, you're going too fast!". I was going a reasonable 28mph. However, my Borla exhaust combined with the uphill acceleration probably sounded a little "aggressive". I just kept driving past her, but I guess I was a little pissed later. I live in the neighborhood across the street by a school. Women routinely speed 35-40 mph in their minivans to drop their kids off when they are late.
I've only had this exhaust on for a short time, but now I'm wondering if I'll be discriminated against for being "acoustically challenged".
Ive had that happen to me several times where I live. Of course having headers and a cam dont help it out any. I just keep on going, I am driving over the speed limit but only 5mph where as others that live here drive about 10-15mph over.

My neighboor recently commented "Better be careful, I hear you coming around those corners".
This coming from a guy who spins out his pickup every chance and flies at 80mph in a 45 zone.
But I got the same thing in my TransAm too, was going about 20 through a developement (25mph) and a guy comes out into the street waving his arms telling me to slow the hell down. I'd like to think of myself as a good person, but I was not in a good mood then, and he just pissed me off. So I did what every responsible LS1 owner should do. I stopped, hit the line lock, asked "what was that?" with my hand to my ear. As he tried to speak, hit the gas. Smoke everywhere. "What...What...Can't hear you?". Don't think he ever saw me leave. Felt good, so it was worth the shortened tire life.
I got a letter from my home owners association that basically implies that. You drive too fast. Keep it closer to 25...I know EXACTLY how fast I am going at all times, I have a HUD.

Yeah, I installed my HUD a few weeks ago, so that it how I knew I wasn't going too fast. It came in handy.
My WIFE accused me of driving too fast in our neighborhood...I routinely drive 20 miles an hour through it cuz there ARE a lot of kids and I DON'T want the neighbors to say anything...
but if we're sounding too fast...well, we'll just have to see how I respond the next time.
My friend used to have a 89 Dodge Caravan... that thing was so damn loud it was insane. It sounded like a diesel Semi-Truck at idle. We were driving it around town... at about 20mph. And a woman started yelling slow down! It was a 25mph zone. It took us about another 20 seconds until she was no longer in sight since we were going so slow... hahaha
Gotta love the noise. We didn't stop laughing until the throttle got stuck a few minutes later, and I thought the whole engine was going to pop.
Just be glad it was a little out lady. I got pulled over by the police Sat night. I was doing nothing wrong. Abiding the speed limit and being a good citizen. He told me my mufflers were too loud and I needed to get them fixed. No ticket just a warning. I wonder how many Harley's get pulled over. BTW my car has headers, no cats, and Stingers. So yes it is loud but not that bad, especially considering I was just cruising by him. He should hear it at WOT.
Maybe you could have stopped and explained to her that you weren't speeding at all, and she probably thought you were, simply because she wasn't used to the throaty sound of your american made sports car. Then you could have thanked her for looking out for the neighborhood children and told her to have a great day. If you live in the area, making her mad probably would result in her calling to report you even though you weren't speeding at the time and that could mean even more profiling for you.
