Has anyone tried this? The widespread claim is that you can boost your fuel economy by 3-4 gallons by adding about 2 ounces of pure acetone to 10 gallons of fuel.
Yes, I have tried it several times and it does work.
I won't bother trying it in my Z06, what's the point, however I tested it in my 1999 Dodge Dakota 4X4.
I add about 3 ounces of acetone to 10 gallons of gas. My average fuel economy is 14-15 mpg around town and after adding acetone it bumps up to 17-18 mpg.
I already got those magnets that "atomize the fuel"
I already got the tornado
and now I have to use Acetone... screw this my gas mileage already went up 200% with the above mentioned modifications, i don't need anything better. hahahahahahahahaha
really interesting stuff. with all that research, how can they be wrong?
But I do agree with the warning about rubber - and don't forget we have rubber seals between our 2 tanks. Mine leaked and had to replace the entire tank assembly - the dealer said is is easier to replace the whole tank rather than replace the o-rings in the connecter tube. I was under warrantee, so I could care less.
I can't prove it, but I think I know how it happened. I added a can of Seafoam to a half-full tank a week prior to the leak. The next day I got a fill-up....but the damage may have already been done. Now I learned to never add anything to the tank without washing it down immediately with a fill-up.
I wouldn't I used some acetone to clean out a plastic airbrush bottle and found a mess of melted plastic on the floor that used to be the bottle.
I do know a retired automotive engineer (Won't tell you what company but the initials are General Motors) that puts 3 ounces of kerosene in his 03 Vette every other tank fill and gets 35 constantly on the road.
I don't really know what it does, but I wouldn't do it.
