Default Would you buy....

I'm looking at a 2003 Z06 with 88K miles on it, carfax is clean, one owner. I am going to go out and see it tonight if possible. The price is under 28K.

Would you not buy it if it checks out to be clean and consistant with the milage? If so, why?

Thanks.

I would. These engines are reliable for many miles and some driveline stuff might need to be attended to (clutch) you should be fine as long as the history checks out.

The only reason I would not buy that car is the price. 28 is way high.
Otherwise go for it.

What would be a fair price to offer? My budget is up to 28K+ttl, preferably under 27K.

Retail is 34K, trade in is 27K in KBB.

He's right. I've seen Z06s with half the mileage go for that price.

Yup...and that's why he'll let it go for 28k. If you try to low ball him he's better off to just wholesale it or trade it in unless he's in some financial trouble and just has to have the money. Personally, I'd escort you off my property at that point. These engines are easily good for 200k miles properly maintained, and after that with some light rebuild will go another 200k. I have 91k on my 2002 and it's never run better. I'm actually getting ready to do a complete repaint so that the body looks brand new again. When you consider that I could just sell it and go buy a low mileage '04 and start all over, that should tell you all you need to know about how mileage concerns me on a Z06.

It is at a dealer. If it checks out i'll offer 1K less than his price and go from there.

Price is WAY WAY HIGH

I paid $31.5 for my '03 Z w/ 7k...yes 7,175 miles and GMPP warranty

Almost bout an '02 w/ 28k miles and GMPP warranty for $26k but passed that up to get a newer...lower milage car!

good luck...but don't pay over $25 for that car!

Dealers mark up their used cars at least $4000. Need to start at 22,300 or so and let him bump you up near 24 or so.

This is summer time, and he is asking a really really high price. Last winter, he would have sold that car for $22k.

TransAm GT,
....You paid 31.5K for a low mileage 03 and I paid 30K for a low mileage 02 here in Savannah. Going by what people from other parts of the country are saying the prices for used ZO6s seem low around here. If we see any more deals around here we could go into business reselling them here on the forum.
Jeff
BTW, Congrats on your graduation. My wife did not march but did get her second graduate degree from GA Southern the other day. Now she will make the money I deserve.

Default went and saw it... long post

I went and checked it out a bit at lunch, didn't have time to test-drive it but I might head back soon to do that.

Exterior wear was pretty consistant with a decently taken care of 88K mile car. There are numerous rock chips. The bad part is there is a deep 3" long pretty deep scratch on the hard top a little behind the drives window. Looks like someone used a sharpie to fill it in.

It had new tires. It seemed to have a aftermarket exhaust. There were a few aftermarket chrome "trim" pieces, door sills, tail light covers, I would have to replace (I don't like them).

The car looks clean underneath, no evidence of leaks. No evidence of being in an accident.

The engine looks clean, but not "freshly power washed" like most cars at a dealer. No visible leaks. It started on the first crank. No strange smells or sounds.

The interior was clean, no tears or abnormal seat wear.

Looking at the GMVIS report it looks like 40K of the miles were done in 2 years. My take on that is it is probably highway milage.

My concernes are mainly how long is the clutch going to last and how well it was maintained. They are selling it with a 30 day 1K mile warranty.

I am also looking at a 100% stock 2001 Z06 with 42K miles for $26.5K (asking price) and the owner has all the receipts. The prices here in So Cal seem to be higher than the rest of the country. Any other 2002-2004 Z06 is > 32K. I am planning on H/C or a supercharger in the future so I think the 20hp difference isn't a big deal. My alternative is to save 6K and go for a FRC (going to look at one this weekend hopefully).

This may not be the right thread to ask this but what the heck. We are talking price so....

I'm negotiating a deal right now. It's a 2001 Z06 with only 6250 miles, It is quicksilver with black interior. Absolutely mint in every way. Garaged and covered in winters. I know he'd take 30K but I might be able to persuade him to 29K. Would that be a killer deal????? Your thoughts.

I don't know much about pricing, but I just bought my 03 z06 2 weeks ago from a dealer in NJ. The z has 34k on the clock, clean one owner carfax and I paid $31,995. I thought it was a good price being they were asking $35k and comparing to an 04 z06 they had with 25k on the clock and they were asking $44,995.

If you like it, just buy it. I don't thing you'll ever regret it.. lol here she is,
