i'm taking my 99 A4 completely stock vette with the 2.73 rear end to the drag strip to grudge race with my friend who owns an 05 mustang gt. what kind of 1/4 mile times do you people think i'll see out of this car? it appears i have a 45hp advantage in the motor and a 250lb advantage in car weight but the rear diff ratio concerns me since the mustang runs a 3.55. am i safe in betting the house that i'll win? if anyone replies to this post with a 1/4 time time please list the mods as my 99 is purely stock, right down to the air filter.
I would do the zip tie mod on the intake....it's free and worth about 5-10 rwhp. Every little bit counts plus your friend won't know. I have seen and heard 13.60 to 13.80 at about 102-104. GL.

The Zip Tie mod is never going to make that kind of power... Its a great free mod though.
ive got a 03 turns 13.5 all day with 2.73 a-4. who would have thought you could run 13's with a 2.73 love this ls1 if you keep temp at track at 160, let it sit till race it will run 13.4's. good luck
traction control is the button on the center consol (i think) so i'll leave that tuned off (your the 2nd person to tell me that). wouldn't it help though??? also, what the heck is competitive mode ad how do you turn that on?
Competitive Mode allows you to have full control over the rear wheels as far as \"burnin\' tread\" but keeps the car pretty much on a straight line if it feels you start to skid (as well as it can anyway). Basically, I guess this is good since the TC won\'t kill power if it feels wheel spin at launch. In my 2000 I just have to hold the TC button in for more than 5 seconds and the DIC shows Competitive Mode. Good luck and toast that Mustang
Another thing to consider, and I didn't see it mentioned, is the type of trans in the Mustang. If he has a 6 speed it is possible he could miss a shift and it would be all over. Nothing better then the ole stab and steer with the A4.
Put the car in 3rd instead of D as the guys on here say it's better for drag racing. I havn't run my Vette at the track yet, but I seen alot of posts saying it's better because it hold the gears slightly longer.
Can't see you losing to an 05 Mustang the ones I seen run where in the 14's
I actually raced a new GT(6 speed) at the track last time and I fell asleep on the lights and spun the tires on the launch and he had about 3 car lengths on me but I still beat him, by about a fender. So it should be no problem.
you are looking at mid to high 13s. zip tie mod will give you .1or .2 which helps. The stang is a high 13 sec car so you should take him but not by much.
Have either of you drag raced before on the track?
Don't take this the wrong way but it easy to get it wrong if it's your first time at the track. From your point of view it's easy to just spin up and get nowhere off the line. To your advatage it's even easier to make a pigs ear of it in an M6 car!
I lost a race to my brother at the track and he had the slower car. I was in my previous car to this one a 99 Z28 with a stall and LTs I ran a best of 13.24 that day but the start line seemed to get slicker as the day went on and I couldn't hook worth a dam as you guys say.
I promised him I wouldn't use my Nitrous and I spun up bad and had to back out of it. I was catching him like a train but the line came just in time for him. Dam he crowed so much about it I wished I would have flicked the nitrous and and shut him down and then lied about it! I ran 13.6!
I ran 12.5 with the spray earlier that day.
So I would say practice at the track first before you race him that way it will be down to the cars and you should win.
