fuel gauge problem

Default fuel gauge problem

it seems like just about every time i drive my 97 the fuel gauge drops to empty and my check engine light comes on. i also have the typical noisy fuel pump. what do you guys recommend? i understand there is 2 seperate sending units.

sounds like sending unit is gone....might as well getthe fuel pump swapped out too...

Check you codes and see if you are getting P1432.
If so reset the code.

The following is posted in leaftye's sticky,

Faulty gas gauge
If you have bad gas (phew!), the fuel sender can be affected by the high sulfur content in the fuel, and cause the gauge to read empty. They car will still operate normally, and the gas gauge will work again if you use better gas, and will usually start again when you restart the car. It's just better to use good gas. Some people have had luck with running fuel filter cleaners thru the gas tank. New fuel senders sometimes fixes this problem. This thread has a LOT of ideas about what could be causing the problems, how to avoid problems, and how to fix it. It also points out how the late C5 fuel tanks and crossover tube is different.

im getting ready to try seafoam in my tank and see if it fixs mine. but mine does the same thing its a pain in the @ss trying to drive cross country with it
