Default Gas guage issue

Well, poop, finally I have an issue and I'm well outside of warranty.

On the way to work today the gas guage went from 3/4 to empty instantly Not good.

Anybody have any ideas what the problem is?? I haven't had a chance to check for codes, etc.

Any help would be appreciated. For reference I'm in Houston.

Thanks
Ed

Or instead of being smug, Hammer could have told you that sulpher buildup on the sending unit can cause this problem. Trying running 2 or 3 tanks of gas with Techron additive (Walmart should carry it). Then run some Techron every other tank forever more to keep it from re-occurring.

So, thinking that today was going to be busy at the office, I tried the lazy way of getting the answer. It worked, but thanks to Hammer, that worked too.

You will see some recommendation for using Chevron (if memory serves) gasoline. That is not an option for me, so I just use a bottle of their Techron fuel system cleaner about once a year. Then I just clear the code (I’m drawing a blank on which one) any time it occurs. It was occurring on every tank, but once I started this procedure it only occurs every now and then.

Just another in a long list of annoying issues with this car.

Yes I could, but why? The search feature is a wonderful tool to find YEARS worth of info and saves clutter from having to repost the same info over and over. So now we have ANOTHER thread that regurgitates the same info. It wasn't like I was being a dick anyway. If he came back and said his search didn't come up with the info he needed, I wouldn't tell him "too bad", I would have specifically helped him find the info he needs. If somebody comes on here and asks which headers are best, what do you think would be better, advising to do a search or say the same thing that has been said hundreds of times?
