Followed instructions from another post, taped everything off, cleaned it w/paint prep, scuffed it, cleaned again, and sprayed with some semi-flat Krylon spray paint from AutoZone!! Less than an hour to do, total cost...less than 5 bucks!!
same here, it seems to come out great in every case I've seen but that's kinda freaky. how long does it last before it starts to peel off?
Why would it peel? It was prepped properly, cleaned properly, dried for 24 hours, so I don't see what the big deal is?? It certainly looks better than the black carbon residue that was on there from the exhaust!!
I can think of better things to do with the $195 I saved by doing this myself rather than pay someone 200 bucks to do the same thing!!
Looks perfect!! Nice to see that people are smart enough to do it themselves. Prep is the most important step. Do they realize ( the have someone else do it guys) that most high end restos have plenty of parts sprayed with cans? Paint is paint. Don't be afraid babies, get out and do it yourself. You may be amazed with what you can do.
Looks great. I want to do this also, just afraid of not getting it taped off straight.
Get some 1/4" wide tape. It bends/shapes easily and does not crimp up. I used a shop light, moving it to many different angles to create a shadow so I could tape exactly where the crease is in the fascia. Just take your time, it's not hard at all!!
Still working up the courage to do mine, but will do it soon. The reason I'm looking at "rattle cans" is purely price. Another member suggested SEM bumper coater paint, which is flexible, and is just under $17 total cost on that auction site. With correct prep, and taking time to mask properly, I can't justify spending more money.
