Default LT's vs shorty headers

I have been doing alot of exhaust searching and on every dyno sheet I see Lt's headers seem to only produce 20 to 25 hp. And the shorties produce 12hp or so. Why on the Fbody's LT's make upwards of 35 to 40,and the vette is much less. And also why would you spend $1000 and up and you can get shorties for $300 plus $230 for a X-pipe and gain the same hp. Speaking of X-pipes how much hp is gain over your H-pipe vs X-pipe?

Not really sure what kind of headers your looking at, but most quality LT's will get you 30-40 rwhp with a good tune. Did you look at Kooks or LG Pro's ? I know alot of guys are using these and a few others Dynatech etc. & getting some good gains. LT's with high flow cats & an X pipe will get you 30-35 rwhp (with a tune).......probably 20-25 w/o tuning.

As far as shorties being the same hp??? You just said they were showing 12hp while LT's are showing 25....How is that the same gain? essentially the stock manifolds are shorties.

And to answere your question about X pipe over H pipe....I have no idea, but I probably wouldnt just do LT's & keep the H pipe unless you like the back pressure popping sound.
Good Luck

Crazy about the totals your looking at for LT's. lt's relatively going to give you at least 30-40 HP!

One has to also recieve a Dyno tune when doing LT's.

Shorties generaly will not require a Dyno. For the money spent LT's are the wat to go you will in the long run be more satisfied by getting LT's.

If you are aslo contemplating future mods and you get a set of shorties you will need to go to LT's to MAXIMIZE your Mods!

What were the LT's you were looking at that are only giving minimal HP gains?

Thanks,Matt

X-pipe will not give you any significant HP gains - it does help smooth out the exhaust flow and will reduce popping and resonance in a system.

I don't think you will see 12 hp from shorties with out a tune.
