Default Painted center console (and other interior bits...)

Howdy Folks!

I'm on deck to do a new Audio setup - definitely doing with a 2DIN headunit (or possibly screen + CarPC). Since this requires the center console to be modified to accommodate the display, it also means it has to be refinished.

I've seen the "textured" type spray on finishes - not bad, but I think I'm looking for something else.

A glossy painted finish I think would be cool - if I match my car color, that means YELLOW. I'm trying to decide of that will be yellow overkill. I realize it's a personal thing, so maybe I'm just trying to get some pics?

Hahaha, I don't even mind being a little "ricey"

I've done _some_ custom MY interior pieces: shifter boot, steering wheel, armrest, door pulls. Also I have Caravaggio race seats that have the +rear+ shell painted MY (since it's the rear, it doesn't "over yellow" too much). I have seen a few cars (MY in particular) that have a little too much interior yellow for my taste, so I definitely have a limit.

I guess I could also go for a gloss black finish which would match the interior pretty well. Maybe do all the hard plastic surfaces in gloss black to mix it in more (make it a little more OEM-ish).

I'd likely get C5Kidd (a vendor here) to do the work as his stuff looks outstanding and he's right down in Orlando.

Thoughts? Pics? Opinions? General words of wisdom? Surf report? Recommendations for lunch?

That looks outstanding! (Your car was one I had in mind in posting this thread) - the darker red (is that Magnetic?) seems like it blends a little better than MY.

I can say this: if I had a darker car blue, black, etc., the interior would *definitely* be painted.

Wow, the stock finish looks terrific!

I know the MY finish would "show" better (since that's my current thing). Yellow is the color you have to be the most careful with - a little goes a LONG way.

I wanted to ask you (figure I'd post here for other folk's benefit) - if a display or HU is a 2DIN spec, then you can build the piece with any further info correct?

I mean, a 2DIN is a 2DIN, or are there "custom" tweaks from unit to unit.

My current non CarPC HU consideration is a AVIC-D3. To be honest, I'm not sure any of the CarPC displays are "DIN" spec'ed, they're just a size based on diagonal measure (like a 7").

Have you done a light oak interior and was it a dull look or glossy?
