Default SS letter inserts or black?

Hey folks, I'd welcome some opinions. I'd like to get some inserts for my rear and can't decide between the stainless or the black. I've read a lot of posts about this and there seems to be a consensus that the vinyl letters don't always take in spite of surface prep, which I know is key. For those of you with black letters that haven't lifted, which vendor did you buy them from? I kinda like the yellow and black thing I've got going with my baby and can't decide if the stainless would look cool or not. I know it's a matter of whatever floats your boat, but I would like to hear what you think. Thanks.

I also had the same dilemma, didn't care for the plastic one that stuck out to far, but wanted black.

Solution:

Purchased the SS inserts and painted them black. Came out great, flush in appearance have had them on for 3yrs now with now issues.

I think I just found a great gift for Father's Day.

Sponge Vette, if I went your route what kind of surface prep was involved? Did you just rough them up a bit and then hit them with a rattle can? Rustoleum?

Thanks guys.

I run a set of the epoxy letters that I got from Mid-America. Have had no problems with them coming loose.

Yep you got it just ruff them up a bit with some 1200 grit clean them off and just use your choice of black spray paint. 2 light coats is better then 1 thick coat.

I have SS Inserts in the bright stainless steel. I think the new black letters from SS Inserts would look incredible on MY. This is a very high quality product and the company gives outstanding customer service.

I know the price is high - but quality has it's price. Sponge Vette offered you a great alternative.

I have just installed the SS black titanium inserts on my MSG rear only. Beautiful product and fit is exact. However, they are more on the line of a dark tinted stainless. They are really a nice rich look but do not take on a true black color. Almost a very dark gray lumious effect.

Thanks for all the feedback, I'm really leaning toward the titanium black but I love the way Sponge Vette's look too. Decisions, decisions....
