Default Cruise Control Intermittent

Need some techno help here.

I have a 99 with 98,000 miles and little things are going wrong. Not big deal, it is expected.

My newest problem is that my cruise control sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Since it works sometimes, I have no idea where to start.

Any suggestions???????

Yes, the most common cause of this is that the brake switch is a little out of place, or it's bad. Does it seem to happen when you hit bumps? If so, to test this idea, head for a good sized bump with cruise on but slip your foot under the brake pedal and hold it up - if its the switch then the cruise should stay engaged as you go over the bump.

I will check that on the way home. So far once it is set it doesnt shut off. Also I noticed that my head lights wouldnt pop up. it may be the rod both are attached to.

thanks.

Headlight won't pop up? They are not connected by a rod - each light has its own motor...You may have a problem with the stalk itself, both the cruise and lights are controlled by it....

I agree I have had the problem too and it was the very same pedal switch.
It is the logical place to start.

Default Its is fixed/working

OK, let me tell you I am stupid before I go on.

The good news. Going down the highway if I take me left foot and push up on the break and set the cruise it works. So like you guys said it is the switch in the brake pedal being out of adjustment or bad. Anyway, I can set the cruise so I am happy.

Now the stupid part.

I have the auto lights set and I guess (remember I am stupid) that you just cant turn them on manually.
I drove the car last night and the lights popped up on their own worked great. I guess I need to read my owners manual

Thanks for the brake/cruise control advice.

Glad you got the cruise figured out.

I'm interested in the headlight issue. ?? I wasn't aware that the twilight feature prevented manual operation of the lights. If that is the case how are you supposed to comply with the "headlights on when raining" law?
