Default Kumho Ecsta question.

I am on the Tire Rack web site and doing a side by side comparison of three Kumho models. What is the difference in the ASX, SPT, MX sets of tires?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but my simple mind cannot figure it out.

Thanks

The ASX can be rotaed side to side (not unidirectional tread) and is more of an all-season tire I believe than the other 2.......

I had the ASX on previous vettes and they were great tires for the price.

Howdy

I run the ECSTA SPT's on my Cobalt SS.

The ASX is their All-season tire.

SPT is their high performance Summer tire

MX is an ultra-high performance tire, similar to a Falken Azenis type of tire. Alot of guys I know use these for autocrossing and daily driving.

There's also an SPT model that has EMT capabilities.

Hope this helps

I just bought the asx after reading about the great reviews on here. They are all seasons with really good treadwear.

my 1st set of SPT's last year were really good, serving as both dd duties and Autocrossing, but this year, I have a set of DOT-Rs for that.

The only thing I've noticed with the new set is they are a little twitchy at about 70 on the PA Turnpike, with all the bad pavement.

Not too swift in Downtown Pittsburgh either. But that's easily rememdied with lowering the pressure a lb or 2

I just went to tire rack to see the new choices of Kuhmos like you were talking about and noticed the prices are getting a lot cheaper since I got mine and there are two new tires to choose from I also noticed some dirt cheap best sellers from other brands of tire makers.

In short:

ASX - All Season, little less traction (ice snow OK, similar treadwear to SPT)
SPT - Summer Tire, good traction, good treadwear (more miles, ice/snow not a good idea)
MX - Summer Tire, Best traction of the 3, less treadwear (no sub freezing temps!!!)

I use the Ecsta SPT, have had zero complaints! About 530 shipped for the set from tire rack.
