Default lets talk catch cans

Hey I bought an o1 Z06 a few months ago before I did much research on Zssss. Its been a great car and I am having fun moding on it. I have heard about the 01 oil use issues but my car has not used any oil in 3000 miles so I feel lucky. Now what is the deal with oil catch cans? And is it something I need?
Thanks Steve

The PCV relieves crankcase pressure, with engine oil, into the intake. This can be excessive under track conditions, and can foul the intake. Do a forum search and you'll find lots of comments and designs from cheap to expensive.
I've seen catch cans at the track that catch 8 oz. in a day. I got concerned about that much flowing back into my intake, and installed a simple version found on the forum. But mine catches nearly nothing, so different engines must have different characteristics.
Or maybe I'm not running hard enough!

I drive the **** out of my '02 and have the EE catch can... emptied it last night 2k after my last oil change and it was over half full... it's an insurance mod that will do absolutely no harm and can only help in the long run...

don't shift until 6700 rpm and that can will start working!

I put in a EE Catch Can several weeks back when my headers went on. I've put about 3k miles with it on, moderate driving, shifting tops around 5500 RPM's. I checked the CC last week and it had about 1/8 inch of oil in it. Defiantely cheap insurance that works!

In my 01 I get the same amount of oil in the can on the street, or at the track.

Default coalescing filter/ air oil separator

I follwed Dave68 advice and example and went with a coalescing filter plus a pre air/oil separator filter ( I used Binks brand). Fabricated an aluminum mounting and SST braided hose.
I found that I collect oil when aggressive with rpms. This is more a longevity issue than performance as it will save the O2 sensors and Cats.
They look good also since the filters are red anodized.

how much oil are we talking here?

This is def something I am considering as well. I have taken a look at the EE catch can and it seems a little overpriced from what I can see. What do you guys that have them think?
