I'm thinking about buying a set of Corsa Indy pipes from WCC (great price) My question is should I also be getting the X pipe to go along with them?? Down the road a bit when funds become more available I'm planning on putting on a set of headers, so does it make any sense to do the X pipe now. I've heard the headers come with their own X pipe so would this be a waste of money??? New to this so all advice is appreciated.
SOME header systems are complete as you describe, but MOST do not come with an x-pipe. If you are thinking about an "X" (and I have Cosa Indy's too) look at the Bassani, particularly at the center "X" section. It is a custom made piece that flows from side to side (for scavenging, which is what you are after to even out the exhaust pulses and decrease back pressure) and is a really nicely made piece.
I have both the Indy's and the Bassani and I love the combination. Though I have the A4, there is no popping when decelerating, and NO motorboat sound to the idle which is what I really wanted to get rid of.
Do both, you won't regret it...........
Plan out a what headers youwill get and see if an "X" pipe is part of their system. I have LG Pro Long Tube headers and an X pipe was all part of the system.
SO, obviously if you plan on a system similar to the LG Pro's, then do without the X-pipe for a while. There are two good things about going about it that way. 1) You'll save money by purchasing the X pipe only the one time (withthe headers) and 2) The Corsa's sound without the X pipe will push you to get the headers sooner than you may have origionally planned.

If you can stand the motor boat idle than wait until you get a set of headers.
If not, get the X-Pipe in the for sale section and you can resell it for just about what you gave for it...

Had the Corsa Indy's for about 6 months. Didn't like the "motorboat sound". Put on the x pipe and what a difference. Love the sound

My thoughts exactly nearly same set-up with long tubes
thats the x i used. at least it looks the same. the true x does seem in theory to work better then the welded together side cut pipes. and you can buy just the x part and save some $$$ too. when i first installed mine i was a little bummed that some of my cars voice disappeared. it does mellow the corsa indy's quite a bit. the motor boat goes away mostly. the pop pop pop on decel does somewhat go away also. but i then added headers and all the cars grawl came right back. with lots of the pop pop pop also. does it add power....NOPE not that i could tell. does it do anything other than try to equalize the exhaust pulses from side to side hence changeing a little of the exhaust notes....NOPE. does it do the same thing as the stk H pipe.... YUP, just a little bit better. thats my experience with the X pipe. buy the magna flow X or similar one that is just the X part and have it welded to your mid pipes in lieu of your stk H pipe and save a $100-$400 and get the exact same results as the $250-$500 ones that come with the bolt on mid pipes
I must be the only one that LIKES the motorboat type sound. My SLP H-Pipe makes it even deeper! Am I the only one in that boat? (pun intended) Different is better
I put the X-pipe on my '99 because the orginal pipe broke at the flange welds. So It's a good insurance policy to do it when you install your new exhaust. Enjoy your Corsa's, I do!
