what's this noise?... need help
Anybody experience this one???..and thoughts??
I have a 2003 Anniversary Vett, convertable 6-speed with 20,000 miles. 2 days ago I picked up a howl. Want to see if anyone has had this. Appears to be something in the transmission, maybe a torque tube bearing(s)....but I am guessing. I am out of warranty, unless drive train is covered longer....hoping for something simple, linkage etc???
The car does have some upgrades, small cam, head, headers, 410 gears, etc. All with around 12K miles on them. NO track time, 1 drag race, and normal fun heavy foot on the pedal now and then stuff. Nothing really aggressive.
Here is my problem:
The howl seems to be in gears 2-5. Could be 1st but I can't detect it. It changes to a louder and higher pitch tone as speed increases. The howl goes away when you press in the clutch, throw it in neutral, accelerate harder, or decelerate. It howls only when you cruise each gear with light pedal.
hmmm
any help out there?
these cars should be a bit more durable, my driving is modest compared to friends I know with their Vett's. but try telling that to my wife....IF it is something big, then I guess I am just the "unlucky duck" in duck season.
