Have a problem with my '03Z that may be unique, for some time it has had an odd odor which continues even when not running and is present even after prolonged garage time. At first I thought it was an exhaust leak but the dealer has checked twice and not found it. Doesn't smell like oil, almost a burning smell. I love driving the car (have had it since new but only 9000 miles on it) but am put off by the aroma that permeates the cabin. Anyone else had anything close?
Otherwise, as a new poster, am gratified to see that others share same or similar concerns with this otherwise great set of wheels.
Car is back at the dealer's now,any help will be much appreciated.
Since your C5 is 5 years old, you may have mold/mildew growing in the HVAC system. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. (To some, it's lethal.) You might have better luck in the correct forum, though.
I get an aroma too once in a while, kind of a hot burning smell, not oil, not brakes. I'll guess it's the cats giving it off after they have been driven for a while, sit for a bit, and restart. Sound familiar?

I may be totally off, or this may help you...I once accidentally ran over a plastic shopping bag (one of the big suckers) and it melted to something hot under the car. I couldn't see anything under the car, but I didn't have a lift handy. For a long time whenever the car heated up it would smell like burnt plastic. If I put the car away in the garage, the smell would just fill the garage. After a while it went away (I assume it finally burned away) and everything seems fine. Maybe this is your problem...maybe not.
Sorry for delay getting back, dealer called and said he checked car out and couldn't find any leaks, exhaust or otherwise, agreed that there was an odd smell but that it seemed to have gone during their test drives. I didn't have a chance to pick it up and was called again by Service Manager who said that he had been checking out the car while it sat there and noticed the smell again. He asked if it would be OK to pull apart the dash and check the heater motor and wiring, even though the car was out of warranty. I told him to go ahead and I would deal with Chevrolet later. Am waiting on the outcome of this.
Thanks for the suggestions, this one is a puzzler.
