I have a 1999 LS-1 and was wanting to put a different intake manifold on my car. I have headers, vararam cold air, 4:10 gears, X-pipe and corsa exhaust. Was wonding if any of the after market intakes were any better on just go with the stock LS-6 intake. I've been looking at BBK, Weiand and LSX. I want to keep the stock throttle body and fuel rail cover if possible. I have been told that the LS-1 intake is robbing power from the headers not getting the horsepower I should be. Thanks for all your input. Vette1999hardtop
The one thing that you DO want to be careful of is to stay away from the aluminum and other metal intake manifolds. The LS6 is plastic and has very little "heat sink" effect where it gets hot and then heats up the incoming air. The metal ones have a lot of this and they get and stay hot with the rest of the engine.....

Also don't just focus on the top end numbers. Look at the whole power curve and how you plan to drive the car. Althouugh the FAST manifold will give you most HP at the top you lose low to mid-range power.

alot of people dont realize this on a STREET car if your gonna always stay at 5-7 rpms all the time by all means look at one of those other intakes but 95% of peoples engines run from idle to maybe 4k then they wonder why they didnt get the performance they expected. I can tell you from my old 5.0 racing days combination, combination, combination.
I have the LS-6 intake with the mods listed below and am very happy with the result. I also track the car at HPDE's and not just drive it around on the street.
Now that is one way to go, BUT not really worth the dollars spent nor the time invested to make a LS6 out of an LS1 motor
What would be the best is to take a little extra cash and get an after market set of heads and a cam.
This would put you way above the LS6 set-up and be worth the monies and time invested! and then you'll have peace of mind knowing you made the most you could or at least for the time being!
What you might and could do is start a thread asking who went from a LS1 base motor and bolted on LS6 parts equaling a LS6 and see if they were happy and satisfied!
Did they leave it that way?
Any regrets?
How long before changed to more powerful H/C combo? Well you get it!
I've seen quite a few members that did this and they had to do more!
Let me know and I'll also be on the look out for the post!
