I've lurked here for a long time and thanks to your help I have done something that I think is great for my car. I have read every post about the Peripheral IPOD Interface but was hesitant to order the kit. I did try the Kensington FM thing but gave up on it. I have a Beach/********/R&B music collection of around 3500 songs plus a good bit more rock ranging from Allman Bros.-Eagles-ZZ Top. My car has the factory trunk CD changer and that was adequate but I wanted to move up. Anyway, I was in Athens, GA on Sat. to see the UGA Dawgs Mens Tennis take on UCLA in the quarter-finals of the NCAA Nat'ls and just killing time dropped by the Best Buy there. They did have the Peripheral Kit in stock for GM products for $99.99 and it comes with 3 harnesses and 3 mounting options(if you want to mount it). If unsatisfied you have 30 days to get it back. They also will install it for $50. All I did was open the box, select the correct harness, unhook the changer harness, plug the new harness into the changer harness and the square box, set the DIP to Config. #6 and route my line to the front. I could have done this in the parking lot. The hardest part was the anticipation. In seconds the radio recognized the IPOD. Even with the stock Bose speakers it rocks. This is all my 59 year old ears need. I will probably eventually mount the IPOD but for now I'm happy. I hope this helps others who might be considering this mod.
Thanks for your help.
Since I dont have a cd changer, in the trunk don't I need another harness?

I suggest going to the Peripheral website, emailing them and questioning exactly what you need. They told me what harness I would need and it came in the kit.
My kit did come with the black Ipod cable(which matches my Ipod and my black interior.
do you lose functionality of the CD changer with this mod?
If you do, Is there a way to keep the CD changer function with the ipod?
Yes.. You lose the changer function... but honestly... I don't even miss it. I was in the same boat as you are for a while... I thought I'd miss the changer. Now it is just extra weight (I left it installed). The things are outdated and clunky by comparison. Go IPOD!!

Yah, if you can burn all of your CD's to an ipod....why would you need a CD changer. I will have to talk the wife into this one
I assume the CD player in the dash unit will still work OK? So at least that is available if you have a CD you want to listen to without puting it on the Ipod.
I'm currently recording a bunch of cassettes (books on tape) to the computer and it will take a lot of CD burning to get them all. I think going to a Ipod with the adapter is the way to go.

talk to Matt Turner over at spec.dock, he came up with a a/b type switch to switch over between your spec.dock ipod and the OEM cd changer in the trunk works great!!
I've been doing searches on here for a long time too but gave up because I thought it would be too complicated.....
I see the iPod to car $100 kits, but what about NON iPOD kits.... so I can hook up any MP3 player too it? I don't even care about recharging, I just want to hook up my mp3 player via the headphone jack and have it play through my factory deck (non cd changer, year 2000, factory in dash cd). Any simple suggestions?
