I just purchased TSP ls6 heads off of the GB on the forum.. I now need to find a decent cam.. I am not looking to get too radical.. Something with a kick in the pants but not a heavy loap.. Suggestions please.. I did order the spring upgrade with the heads..
There are so many choices now, you'll have to do some serious research.
I have a 228R on a 112 LSA from Texas Speed and Performance. Check out their website, lots of good info. there. Check all of the supporting tuners (on the left side of the page). They all have custom cams.
Oops, just realized you got your heads from TSP. They have a great selection of cams too.
Good Luck

Reason: Just noticed your heads came from TSP
Ya I know.. I just don't really know what I am looking at.. I did a cam upgrade in my C4 a couple years back and just went with the LT4 hotcam.. easy.. I have heard not so great things about the LS1 hot cam so I don't want to go there.. TSP refered me to there 224R but I just wanted to check out my options..
ECS (East Coast Supercharging) has this blower cam that is pretty good and would work well with a non supercharged motor. It idles well and when it kicks in look out. Has a good RPM power range. Might want to check into it.
I ran a 230-236 112 XE-R in my 346. Great cam and with an SD tune I could have driven it daily. I sold the H/C setup to a friend and he's loving it. It's all in the tune.
i have the TSP 228R on a 114 LSA in my Z06. You can definitley tell it has a cam at idle but the chop is mild. it drives nearly stock with a good tune. the 224r and the 228r will behave nearly the same with the 228r pulling about 10 more hp & tq on average.
If you want to keep a stock smooth idle with NO shake you are better off going with the MTI stealth 1 or MTI Stealth 2 cam.
Here are some very "general" guidlines that you can use to help in your decision making. The LS1 likes a split duration cam with a little more on the exhaust side. The less LSA you have, the more choppy it sounds but the lower in RPMs the torque kicks in. The less advance timing, the easier to dial in the tune.
All that being said, you still need to do a lot of research before you get a cam. Here's one thing I can say. A buddy of mine has a 228/228 .114 and I have a 224/228 .112 and we're both running AFR heads. We were both recently tuned and while he got about 4 more hp, I got 14 ftlbs. more torque and the cam kicked in about 500 RPM lower. His idles smoother though. It all depends on what you want.
