i've had my loyds car mats in for a little more than a few months...well apparently the heel of my shoe hit fresh gum in a parking lot somwhere....and i just noticed it when i tried to rest my foot on the dead pedal.
Try gum turpentine. Just kidding. but seriously, there are also solvents out there if you check the internet...but be sure to make sure your color is safe on the carpet. You could also take the piece...actually take both of them.....to a dry cleaners and see what they say.
Ice works really well on gum. My wife made me cut clear carpet runner to the shape of our Lloyds mats to protect them. The mats are well protected, and you can still easily see the Vette logo. We just take them off for meets. Our mats still look like new.
The absolute best way to remove gum is to use a brown paper bag and an iron. Put the paper bag over the area with the gum and place the iron over it. Keep turning the bag over to a clean spot and keep ironing. The gum sticks to the bag and in no time your carpet will be clean with no chance of scorching the carpet. Of course use the iron on a low setting. Good luck.
I've heard the iron thing for wax...never for gum. Let us know! Ice is the traditional favorite, plus you're not going to make it worse, even if it doesn't work on this application.
