bizzaro world column lock question ?!?!?!
One day, about 6 or 7 months ago my steering column stopped locking. I get the " service steering column" message on the D.I.C. but other than that everything's fine. I know, I know get the by-pass and forget about it. But if I don't have to spend any money and I can live with a non-locking steering column GREAT ! My question is has anyone else experienced this and did it eventually lock-up ? Thank you gentlemen.

I wouldn't risk it and spend the $50... this way you get rid of the annoying message and you don't have to live in fear that somehow some way it will lock on you even though it hasn't for 6 months.

Our 2001 has never had any odd DIC messages about the column lock, nor has it ever given us the dreaded Remove Key Wait 10 Sec message... I still installed the CLB from Corvettes of Houston and I'm glad I did. Seems like a cheap alternative to the vette leaving us stranded somewhere.
