Default Can a C5 beat a C6?

Alright guys, im not exactly sure whats going on here, but I picked up a 2001 M6 C5 a few days ago, and ive been goofin around with it a little bit, and last night I was cruisin around town with my buddy and a C6 with exhaust came up behind us quick (It backfired when he let off the gas, how i could tell it had some sort of exhaust), flashed his lights, and went around us, so of course I downshifted and caught up to him... Now we went from a low maybe 15 or 20 mph roll and we were pretty much dead even, he inched his way forward a bit when i shifted, i havent gotten used to it yet, but then in 3rd gear I pulled those inches back and kinda inched a bit in front of him.

Now is this possible? i mean how could it be, I am the 3rd owner of this car, the previous owner did nothing to it, and from what i can tell there is nothing changed about it, you guys think it could have a tune?

I can hear a rattle every once in awhile below 2000 rpms when starting off from a stop, kinda sounds like a twin disk clutch.

Im pretty sure im not a better driver than the C6 driver yet, so what could it be? anyways to tell if there is a tune if you dont have a programmer?

Thanks in advance guys

And to answer your question, stock for stock a C6 is faster than a C5 unless its a C5 Z06. Which in your case it isnt.

Come on, let's lighten up on him a bit.

The reason you're getting all the bad vibes here is because posts about street racing or aggressive driving like that is prohibited on this forum -- the moderators and owners don't want to encourgage that kind of talk around here. Talk about racing on a track or closed course is fine. You should read the sticky (at the top of C5 general) and review the rules about topics.

That aside, welcome to the form. You'll find lots of friendly people here, and lots of help and advice about the C5. Congrats on the purchase of your car, and when you get a chance post up some pics.

And like the earlier poster said, stock for stock a C6 will outperform a C5.

IB4TL - to the OP means In Before the Lock - which means that Grumpy (a Forum Moderator) is probably gonna lock this thread due to it's discussion of street racing

But since it's your first post, WELCOME ABOARD!!

Can a C5 beat a C6... only in one thing - a beauty contest.

The C6 is faster, but the C5 is better looking. JMHO...

Yes, in fact, when you buy a car new (I didn't, but the guy saved his) you get a video about--duh--how to adjust the mirrors and turn on the radio....but it also plays the sound of that rattle when taking off.

Mine happens about half the time, maybe less, I don't pay attention anymore. Right around 5 mph as you take off from a stop. Sounds sick. I mean, sick, not sick. <sigh>
