Well, if it's not one thing, it's another! Someone help me with this, PLEASE. My wipers have a mind of their own. They have started wiping when they are turned off. A wipe here or there and then maybe nothing for awhile. They will even start wiping regularing for a time. All in the off position. They turn off when I turn the engine off. They will turn on when I start them. Is this the motor or the switch? After just going through a check engine light hassle. The car is a c-5 convertible.
there's alot of info on this. Do a search.
Did this happen after the car got wet? It's usually the wiper module getting flooded because the drains, utters are plugged up with debris. I had the same thing happen last month. Found the answer after doing a search hear on the forum.
In my 02 my wipers started going one day by themselves and wouldn't shut off. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the wiper switch ($159parts). They found the wiper switch shorted internally.
$311 was the total repair cost (My extended warranty through Warranty Direct picked up the entire cost for me)..
Make sure you pull the fuse for the wipers or they can scratch the windshield.
both my vette and my two buddies vettes did this same thing. we had tto pull the fuses to keep the wipers from running all the time as the problem got worse.
the fix is a new wiper switch, the one on the side of the colum. its easy to replace as well just a couple of torx bit screws after you get the plastic sourround off the colum.

This may not be the solution to your problem, but the symptoms sound exactly like what happened to me today. While a friend and I were taking my dash apart to re-solder the A/C display circuit board, we accidently (without knowing) depressed the "intermittent" button on the end of the wiper stick. When I started the car, the wipers started up, even in the "off" position. Before doing anything drastic, I would check to see if the "intermittent" button has been depressed. I know I have bumped mine in the past while reaching for the volume ****.
Bonnie,
See the post I just put up titled WIPER MOTOR LESSONS LEARNED. Maybe it will help you out.
This is a good starting point. There are drains for the water that comes into the cowl area, as well as for the ac drain. If these get clogged with debis, they can cause problems. Here is sneakelmans post, and here is one on cleaning your udders
Cleaned Udders and dried everything out. Good thing my hand and arm are small. They were full of stuff. Those inch long fingernails of mine worked good. No problems with wipers. Working as deisgned. I'm thrilled!!!!!
