Default Race compound tires

I am looking for race compound tires for my Z06 so I don't kill my everyday tires at the track, but I'm having a hard time finding anything in the 265/40ZR17 and 295/35ZR18 sizes to fit stock rims. Has anyone else equipped their Z06 with race compound tires? I am looking for any suggestions, because I haven't bought rims yet either. Thanks!

Kumho tires were recommended to me. See if they suit your needs.

Same problem here, post this question in racing section.

Most will suggest going to 17's all around and either Kuhmo's or Hoosier's.

here is what I use

1. Hoosiers on stock wheels, 275 40 17 front and 305 35 18 rear.

2. GS wheels 17 x 9.5 and 17 x 11, with Kumho V700, 275 40 17 and 315 35 17

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help everyone!

Jerry, can you recommend a good place to get these tires? I see from your sig that you are in Burlington, and I live just up in Waterloo. Running the risk of looking like a dummie, what are GS rims? Thanks!

Kumho has recently come out with the Ecsta V700 race tire available from Tire Rack. 18" sizes include 285/30-18 and for the front 275/40-17. The 18" tire is really developed for Porsche and is 0.9 shorter than the 275/40-17. I will be trying these this Sunday in Auotx. The new tire is lighter than the Victoracer and has a softer cmpd. Hoosiers it what I use too. Same size on the factory wheels as Jerry. Great tires, you'll be amazed at the difference on the track.

I get my Kumho's from Wheel and Tire Zone in Mississauga (905) 624-1577
I get my Hoosiers in the US although I believe they are also sold by Competetion Tire in St Catherines.
GS wheels are from 1996 Grand Sport C4. They are 17x 9 1/2 @56mm front and 17x11 @50mm rear. The fronts fit perfectly however the rears stick out from under the rear fenders by 6mm. At the moment Kumho does not make an 18" rear that is big enough, hence the use of 17" rears.
What type of competition are you interested in? Let me know if you need more info.

I am selling two sets of used Hoosiers that fit perfectly on the stock size rims. I run them in SCCA Solo II Super Stock class which requires stock size rims. $400 plus shipping for each set.

Let me know if you are interested.

Hi Mike,

I was thinking of 18's on the front for next year. What offset are your front wheels?

I'm not sure what the offset is. I know the wheels stick out of the wells about 1/4" on each side of the car (stock suspension setup lowered 1"). The fronts are about 1/2" wider than stock so I think I have less offset up front than the stock setup. Check with the guys at Mallett, they are the 5 twin spoke style that they sell for like $2200 a set. I think some neg camber should help things but I have not seen any rubbing since the Z06 doesn't roll much while cornering.

Having more rubber on the road is a great thing.

Mike
