Mine hasen't come yet. What's the bottom line? Ric
GM Performance mustered a best of 12.42 @ 112.7 MPH from the 01 ZO6 (they didn't have an 02 for testing) and got a best of 11.98 @ 117.7 out of the Viper GTS (not the ACR).
02 ZO6 should be .2 seconds faster and a couple of MPH.
These runs were made on a 90 degree day with low baro pressure. They iced down the intakes on both cars before running them and ran back to back alternating cars. They had some trouble with the Z's shifter at the start but got it ironed out. They also said they did not powershift the Viper. They claimed that the "other" magazines don't really test the cars correctly as they do. They also noted that they previously tested a Viper RT/10 and got a 11.77 @ 120 mph out of it on a cooler day.
Not to fret, they are awaiting an 02 ZO6 to test. I would have given them mine for testing sake.

Its just the eternal problem... I just wish I could afford the Viper... or better yet both.... someday... I will have both but not for a while....
Vettes Rock and Vipers Rock Too....
If its fast and fun......... its either a Vette or a Viper....
If its slow and ugly...... its a Ricer......
Either way a Vette or Viper ... they both rock... its all a matter of preference... The Vipers start out with more power and the owners mod from that point while us Vette owners start lower and work from there.... Either can beat either... it just depends on the day and the car....
To any Viper owners...I highly respect you.... but I will always be chasing your tail.... and thats what keeps it fun....civilized competition between GM and Dodge....Vettes and Vipers....... Its all just about FUN!!!!!
These tests are a joke..........how about puttin 450 HP, in the 06, and then we do the tests.......
Less than .5 sec difference now, and Ric, has cut it even lower, as well as Ranger,,,,,,,,,,both with ' 01's.......
Add 20k, in mods, and then you'll be close to equal footing......then we will see who's playing what instrument..........Apples, and Apples guy's....... :yesnod:

Hmmm... I believe the '02 Z06 and the Viper are "apples and apples", albeit just in different baskets.
Is the 02 Zo6 the first year with 405 hp. If not why would the 02 have .2 sec on the 01?
Yes, '02 is the first year of the Z06 being rated at 405 HP. I've seen a '02 Z06 push about 350 RWHP (I think the only mod he had was the Halltech intake) and I've heard of some others ones doing so also to give you a figure to go by in case you were wondering.
The '01 Z06's were rated at 385 HP so there is suppose to be a difference in power from '01 to '02. There are some updates they made like a 7% more gripping force on the clutch (to give better grip for the increase in power) and if I'm not mistaken a little more aggressive camshaft but don't quote me on that last part. They also did the airbox differently for '02 on the Z06 and I think they descreened the MAF sensor but I can't remember if that started in '02 or not, it might have been that way in '01 also. I don't know for sure on that last part.
Oh, I also heard they did updates to the suspension in '02 so maybe that helps them hook better off the line. Although I hear the suspension updates that they did were to help it stick to the road better when driving it and also not have the rear end want to come out as easily.
TedJ, you are correct.......the screens are gone, most are pushing 355/360's with Halltec's, clutch changed, cam profile changed, intake box cover opened up, suspension for stickier rear on the course.........
One side note, these auto's BOTH the '01''s, & '02"s, are UNDERATED.....in typical(love it GM style)..........my Bone stock '01, is runnning 408 Crank H.P.........and so close to 350 RWHP, BONE stock it ain't funny.......if I added a TRIC, it would put me in the 360+RWHP range......with ZERO other mods.........this is figuring a 15% driveline loss...............
The '02's do not react well to the new intakes, as they breathe much better, and have less restictive exhaust systems........no precats........Sso, be carful making this mod on an '02.......it MAY cost your POWER........ :D
Having owned both a 02 Z06 and a 00 Viper GTS, I can tell you from the seat of my pants, the Viper is faster. The Viper just pulls, and it pulls harder than any cars I've owned, that includes a NOS NSX, 996TT and Diablo SV. However, unless you want a hotrod, Viper is not the car to get. Personally, I think it's a POS. I know some owners that sold their cars after a few months of ownership, all for the same reason I did. Anyone wants to buy a 01 Yellow RT/10 w/ 1k miles for less than $63k? I know someone who is as disappointed as me, who wants to get rid of his Viper.
Um, Ryan,,,,,,,,,,,how you figure that?
450/v.s./385/405/...........my math is a little fuzzy.....but, seems there is a slight edge...........not to mention Torque............
No "What If's", just the facts ma'am, just the facts....... :yesnod:
People seem to forget one thing when comparing "peak" power numbers.
The number of 385, 405 gets toss around v.s the 450 Hp for the Vipers..
Don't forget most sotck Vipers dyno at 405-410- RWHP, that is 70-80 RWHP difference on the 06!!!...

Not so fast ... the Vipe may put down about 50 ~ 55 more rear wheel ponies than a '02 Z06 ... but it also carries around 300+ pounds more lard and has less favorable gearing. This is why it comes down driver in most instances.:yesnod:
xsmph ... I hope you get a Viper for Christmas ... I know it's got to be on the top of your list! :smash:
The fact is the viper is faster than a Z06 in the 1/4 mi, stock. Stock to Stock or apples to apples. I would love to have a viper to go to the track with, but not as my all around fun driver. Give them the respect thay are due. Ric
